I am seriously stressing out because Prime Day 2026 is basically here and I still havent decided if I should wait for a deal on the Sony a7 IV or just buy it now. My old a6400 is literally falling apart—the shutter sounds weird and it overheats after like ten minutes of 4k video which is just not gonna work for what I have coming up. I’ve been doing a ton of research and I’m just getting more confused the more I read. I saw one leak on a tech gear blog saying Sony is definitely gonna have a massive warehouse clearance for Prime Day because they want to move stock before the a7 V drops later this year, but then I read a different thread where people were saying those rumors are just clickbait and the a7 IV is still selling so well that Sony has no reason to discount it.
I really need to know if anyone has seen actual price tracking leaks for the 2026 event specifically. I’ve got a huge wedding gig in mid-August here in Seattle and I need to have the camera in my hands and tested before then. I cant be learning a new menu system the day of a shoot. My budget is strictly $2200 for everything—body, maybe a kit lens, and a fast V60 card.
- Must be a7 IV specifically (I need that full frame look)
- Budget is $2000-$2200 total
- Reliable shipping because of my mid-August deadline
- Needs to be a brand new unit not some refurbished or grey market stuff
Is it worth the gamble to wait until the actual Prime Day dates start or do these things usually sell out in like five minutes? I’ve never actually tried to buy a high-end camera during the summer sale before and I’m worried I’m gonna end up with nothing and have to pay way more at a local shop last minute because I waited too long. Does anyone remember if the a7 III had actual body-only discounts during the last couple of years or was it all just bundles with crap lenses? Just trying to gauge if the discount is actually gonna be significant enough to justify the anxiety...

Unfortunately, the Prime Day data for high-end Sony bodies is usually not as good as expected. I have tracked these cycles for years and honestly, the massive clearance rumors rarely materialize into anything more than a $200 discount. It sucks, but Sony tends to hold their value way too well, even when a successor is looming. For a mid-August wedding, waiting is a massive gamble that probably wont pay off in terms of actual savings versus the risk of shipping delays. To stay under your $2200 limit, you are looking at a very tight squeeze:
- Sony a7 IV Full-Frame Mirrorless Camera Body
- Sony FE 28-70mm f/3.5-5.6 OSS Lens
- Lexar Professional 1667x 128GB SDXC UHS-II V60 I really think you should just buy it now so you can actually practice with the real-time eye AF... losing a gig because of a learning curve is way more expensive than saving a hundred bucks. Its a tough spot to be in tho, seriously.

Like someone mentioned, $2200 for a brand new setup is cutting it close. I would suggest being careful with lens choices:
- Sony FE 28-70mm f/3.5-5.6 OSS: cheapest way to start, but the glass is kinda mid for weddings.
- Tamron 28-75mm f/2.8 Di III VXD G2: way sharper, tho it might blow your budget. Make sure to grab a SanDisk 128GB Extreme Pro UHS-II V60 too... its cheaper but still works fine.

basically if you want that full frame look for the wedding, the Sony a7 IV Full-Frame Mirrorless Camera is the right move for the hybrid features. but honestly fitting it into a $2200 budget with a lens and card is tight. right now the body usually sits around $2498, so even a $300 discount puts you at $2198... leaving zero room for glass. you should look at the Sony FE 50mm f/1.8 Lens as a cheap way to get that shallow depth of field for the wedding portraits if the kit lens is too pricey. for the card, the Lexar Professional 1800x SDXC UHS-II 128GB V60 is a solid middle ground for speed and price. it handles the 4k bitrates fine without the heavy cost of V90s. TL;DR: waiting for prime day is a gamble because you need time to test the gear. if you see the body for $2000, grab it, otherwise you might have to stretch that budget for a decent lens.
