I am so hyped for the a7 V seriously i have been saving up for like two years now just for this specific upgrade. I currently have the old a7 III and it's starting to show its age especially with the autofocus and the menu system is just a nightmare compared to the new stuff. I'm planning this massive dream trip to Tokyo and Kyoto in August 2026 so the timing for Prime Day seems literally perfect if the camera actually drops by then.
I did some digging on SonyRumors and a few other forums and people are saying the a7 V might launch late 2025 but then I saw a post saying production delays might push it to spring 2026. If it comes out in April or May do you think Amazon would actually put it on sale for Prime Day in July? Usually they only discount the older models like the a7 IV or maybe the a7R series. I read that Sony is pretty strict with pricing on new releases for the first six months but then someone else said they often do hidden deals where they bundle a fast SD card or an extra battery for the same price which would still be a win for me.
Here is what I am looking for:
Do you think I should wait for the Prime Day madness or just pre-order it the second it goes live to make sure I actually have it for my trip? I'm worried if I wait for a deal it'll be out of stock and then I'm stuck taking my old camera to Japan which would be such a bummer... what would you guys do?
Actually, you might want to be careful with the GM lens if your budget is tight. If you really want that a7 V for Japan, pre-ordering is way safer than waiting for Prime Day... Sony is usually stingy with new releases.
Jumping in with some technical thoughts... unfortunately i think the screen resolution on the upcoming model might still be a letdown. Sony has a track record of using lower-res panels on their mid-range bodies which is kinda frustrating for the price. If the a7 V is anything like recent releases, the buffer might struggle with high-res bursts unless you spend big on media. Points to consider:
I definitely agree with your concern about the stock issues. If the camera launches that close to your trip, waiting for Prime Day is a massive gamble. Sony is very strict with pricing on new releases, and they almost never drop the price of a flagship within the first six months. Consider these risks:
