Hi everyone! I recently got the Sony a7R V, and I’m looking for a great flash to complement its capabilities. What are your recommendations for the best flash to use with this camera? I’d love to hear your experiences and suggestions!

Have you tried the new Godox V1Pro, it is really powerful, yet the price is not very expensive like Profoto A10 and Sony HVL-F60RM2.

@user Yes, V1 Pro is a good flash. My 860IIS flash had been misfiring, making me lose shots, so I got this as a replacement. I'm thrilled with it! The flash performed flawlessly during an entire night of event photography.

The secondary flash is excellent for providing fill light when bouncing the main flash off the ceiling. I'm very pleased with this purchase.

One small but appreciable feature is the ability to charge directly via USB-C, which simplifies my workflow. This flash has proven to be a reliable tool that has improved the quality and consistency of my photography.

The Sony a7R V is a phenomenal camera for photography, especially when paired with a capable flash unit to illuminate your subjects. While the a7R V has decent built-in flash capabilities, an external flash will provide much more power and flexibility.

For the a7R V, I'd recommend looking at Sony's HVL-F60RM2 flash. It's a powerful flash with a guide number of 60 meters at ISO 100 and 105mm, giving you plenty of range. It has a rotating/tilting head for bouncing the light, allowing you to get creative with directional lighting. The HVL-F60RM2 is also part of Sony's wireless radio flash system, so you can easily use it as part of a multi-flash setup controlled directly from the camera.

If you want even more power, the Profoto A10 is an excellent option, though pricier. It's an air-cooled monolight style flash with TTL metering and High-Speed Sync up to 1/8000th second. The A10 has exceptional battery life and can act as both an on-camera flash and be used off-camera.

No matter which you choose, I'd also recommend getting some flash modifiers like a mini softbox, snoots, gels, etc. These allow you to control the quality and color of the light for incredible creative effects.

Don't overlook third-party flashes from brands like Godox either, which offer great bang for your buck. Just make sure any flash you get is compatible with the Sony hot shoe and flash system. With the right external flash, your a7R V's already stellar image quality will be taken to new heights.

I've been using the Godox V1S with my a7R V and it's fantastic. The round head gives more natural light spread, the modeling light is actually useful, and the battery life destroys traditional AA-powered flashes. Plus you get access to the entire Godox ecosystem for off-camera work. Much better value than the Sony options.

> Jennifer Ann Smith: "Godox V1 or V1 Pro." Like someone mentioned, you really should just stick with the Godox ecosystem! I've been reading forum posts for hours and honestly, it seems like the safest bet for our Sony a7R V cameras. I'm always so nervous about buying gear that might not work or could mess up the electronics, but everyone says their Sony-compatible stuff is just amazing and super reliable! You seriously can't go wrong with any of their newer flashes. It is so much easier when you know there is a huge community of people using the same brand who can help if you get stuck... which I totally do all the time lol. Just pick up whatever Godox unit fits your budget and itll be fantastic!

Congratulations on your new Sony a7R V! 📸 For a top-notch flash, I recommend the Profoto A10. Here’s why:

  • Premium Brand Reputation: Profoto is renowned for its quality and innovation.
  • Seamless Sony Compatibility: The A10 integrates seamlessly with Sony systems.
  • Built-in Flash Convenience: No need for external triggers; it’s built right in.
  • Wireless Connectivity: Explore creative lighting options.

However, keep in mind that the A10 is a bit bulky and comes with a higher price tag. If you’re a seasoned photographer, it’s an excellent investment. Beginners might find it complex, though. 🤔

If you’re open to alternatives, consider the Godox V1. It’s reliable, powerful, and works seamlessly with the Sony a7R V. Plus, it won’t break the bank!

Why not try an off-camera flash, such as Godox AD200 Pro. I really love it. Syncing this flash with my other Godox units was a breeze. The battery life is exceptional, lasting through multiple wedding shoots with just one charge. Its durable case enhances portability and protection, making it a reliable companion for on-location photography. Overall, it's a powerful and convenient addition to my gear.

For your Sony a7R V, I highly recommend the Godox V1-S flash. It’s well-regarded for its round head design, which provides even light distribution and a soft natural look, perfect for both portrait and event photography. It’s also compatible with Sony's TTL system, ensuring accurate exposure and allowing for creative flexibility with high-speed sync and wireless control. Many users find it reliable and a great value for its features.
