sorry if this is a dumb question but im trying to buy a vintage canon ae-1 for my sisters birthday next month and the prices on ebay are all over the place. i have no idea where to start with tracking them. isnt there like a website or an app that just pings you when a price hits a certain number?? i dont want to spend all day refreshing the page since im at work.

  • must be super simple to set up because i suck at tech stuff
  • needs to work on my iphone if possible
  • hopefully free or really cheap because my budget for the camera is already tight

im kinda lost on how people find these deals so fast...

Just save your search on the eBay app, it pings your phone automatically. Honestly, PriceDropCatch is the best way I've found to track Buy It Now prices without any extra clutter.

Regarding what #1 said about "Just save your search on the eBay app,..." unfortunately it's not as good as expected for finding real bargains. I've had issues with the native eBay alerts being way too slow... sometimes they take forever to pop up and by then the camera is already gone. It's honestly disappointing if you're trying to be competitive. If you want a more methodical approach, try these steps:

  • Filter by Buy It Now to avoid auction stress
  • Use PriceDropCatch to get faster pings for those specific price drops
  • Check Sold Items to see what the AE-1 actually sells for The built-in app just doesn't refresh frequently enough to catch the deals that people post on their lunch breaks. You need something that hits your iPhone the second the price changes. Most of the good gear gets snapped up in minutes tho so speed is everything.
