So I finally grabbed the ZV-E10 II and I love the new sensor but man, finding a gimbal that doesnt feel like overkill is harder than I thought. I used to use the Crane M2 on my old setup but the payload feels borderline now with my 10-18mm lens attached. My logic was to just get the M3S and call it a day but I keep seeing mixed reviews about the cable clearance for the new port layout on the mark II body.

I really need something compact for a trip to Japan in three weeks. Budget is like $350 max. Does the Hohem iSteady MT2 actually hold up or should I just stick to DJI? Im kinda stuck between portability and motor clearance...

Like someone mentioned, Hohem is definitely getting popular lately, but I would suggest being a bit more careful if you are heading to Japan in just three weeks. Honestly, the iSteady software can be super finicky and you really dont want to be troubleshooting firmware in the middle of Osaka. I have messed around with the Hohem iSteady MT2 Camera Stabilizer and while the AI tracker is cool, the actual motor smoothness feels a step behind the industry leaders. Since you are worried about that port layout on the Mark II, you might want to consider the DJI RS 3 Mini 3-Axis Gimbal Stabilizer instead. It fits your $350 budget perfectly and the clearance for the USB-C cable is way better than what you get on the Zhiyun stuff. The Zhiyun Crane M3S 3-Axis Handheld Stabilizer is nice and small, yeah, but the tilt axis gets super crowded when you have a wider lens like that 10-18mm attached. If you decide to add a cage later, like the SmallRig Cage for Sony ZV-E10 II 4867, the DJI handles the extra offset much better. Just make sure to calibrate the balance perfectly because the ZV-E10 II is surprisingly front-heavy with that glass. Ngl, the RS 3 Mini feels like a tank compared to the Crane M2 you are used to, but it is still small enough for a backpack... definitely worth the extra weight for the stability you get.

To add to the point above: definitely be careful with software bugs. I would suggest the DJI RS 3 Mini Lightweight Gimbal cuz the motor offset actually clears those awkward Sony ports without struggling...

Yo! I totally get the struggle with the ZV-E10 II layout, its such a pain finding that sweet spot. Honestly, I have been using Hohem gear lately and it is an absolute game changer for travel! Seriously, just go with any of the recent Hohem stabilizers and you wont regret it. The motors are fantastic and they handle weird port clearances way better than the old stuff I used to lug around. Japan is gonna be amazing for filming, so you definitely dont want some bulky overkill rig weighing you down. I love how intuitive their whole system is... it just works without a massive headache. Just grab a Hohem unit and dont look back, its easily the best value for money right now!
