So I finally upgraded to the a7R VI and honestly the autofocus is a dream but I am pulling my hair out trying to find a trigger that doesnt suck. I spent like three hours reading through DPReview and Reddit threads and everyone is arguing. Half the people say just get the Godox XPro II-S and call it a day but then there are all these complaints about the hot shoe pins on the newer Sony bodies being super fragile or the trigger losing connection if you move too fast. Then you have the Profoto guys saying you HAVE to spend $400 on their Connect Pro or whatever but my budget is really topping out at $300 because I already spent way too much on lenses this month. I'm doing mostly portrait work in my studio here in Chicago and I really need something that won't flake out when I have a client in front of me.

I saw some people talking about the Westcott FJ-X3m too but does that even talk to Godox gear? I'm so confused with all these different ecosystems and I just want my lights to fire every single time I hit the shutter. Is that too much to ask for in 2024?? What are you guys actually using with the R6 specifically?
I'm using the Godox XPro II-S TTL Wireless Flash Trigger on my Sony and it works well. Group management is fast and the AF assist has been reliable in my studio.
I switched to the Westcott FJ-X3m Universal Wireless Flash Trigger after my shoe snapped mid-shoot. Its actually sturdy. Use Westcott FJ-XR Wireless Flash Receiver for your legacy strobes to stay synced.
Stumbled upon this discussion and wanted to chime in because I have been exactly where you are with my Sony setup. If you are worried about the shoe breaking but want to stay in a budget-friendly ecosystem, I have been super satisfied with the Godox X3-S Wireless Flash Trigger. It is their newer touch-screen model and it feels way more robust than the older triggers because it is so low-profile. It doesnt catch on things or put as much leverage on the pins which is a lifesaver. Like someone mentioned about the legacy strobes, you can just grab a Godox X1R-S TTL Wireless Flash Receiver for each of your old lights and everything talks to each other perfectly. The interface is actually faster for changing groups once you get used to the swipes. Honestly, its been totally reliable for my studio work and the AF assist handles the dark studio corners just fine. Definitely worth looking at if you want to save some cash for more glass.
