I recently got the Sony ZV-E10 camera, and I'm planning to use it for recording video interviews. However, I'm a bit overwhelmed by the number of settings and options available. Could someone please guide me on the best settings to use for capturing high-quality interview footage with this camera? Any tips and tricks would be greatly appreciated.

Basically, the biggest technical hurdle with the Sony ZV-E10 for long-form content is the thermal limit. You absolutely have to set the Auto Power OFF Temp to High in the settings or it wont last through a standard interview. I've seen too many people lose footage because the camera hit its safety ceiling early. From a practical standpoint, skip the S-Log3. It is 8-bit on this camera and the footage falls apart if you push it too hard. Cine4 is much more stable for skin tones and saves you a lot of time in post. I usually pair it with a Sony E 35mm f/1.8 OSS for that clean background separation. Also, grab a SmallRig NP-FW50 Dummy Battery for a constant power source. Relying on the internal NP-FW50 for video is pretty risky in my experience.

To setup your Sony ZV-E10 for an interview, I recommend the following:

  1. Use a directional shotgun mic plugged into the mic input for the best audio quality. The built-in mics are okay, but an external mic will sound much better.

  2. Set the camera to full auto mode to start. You can adjust exposure compensation if needed.

  3. Position the camera at the subject's eye level for a natural perspective. Use a tripod if possible to keep things stable.

  4. Choose a backdrop that isn't distracting. A plain wall or curtain works well. Avoid windows in the background.

  5. Setup basic soft lighting from the front if indoors to get a well-exposed image. Avoid harsh shadows.
