so my housewarming is coming up in three weeks and im trying to narrow down this massive amazon cart for the registry but i need my sisters eyes on it first. i looked into those chrome extensions that let you share a cart link but honestly they look super sketchy and im worried about privacy.
then i saw the invite to list thing which is okay i guess? but my logic was that i wanted her to see the exact quantities and the total price im at right now without her having to add everything to a new list herself. is there a way to just let someone view the live cart without giving them my login or using weird third party apps? its getting annoying...
I ran into this exact headache when I was helping my sister-in-law redo her entire home office last summer. We had like 40 items in the cart—everything from ergonomic chairs to cable management kits—and she needed to see the total budget in real-time. Amazons native sharing is pretty garbage for carts because its built for shopping, not collaborating. The Manage List feature is okay for picking items, but it wont show the tax or the shipping combos that change based on whats actually in your active cart. If you want her to see the math without handing over your password, you basically have two technical routes:
Building on the earlier suggestion, in my experience, the only real way to do this safely is to move items into a dedicated List and toggle the quantity settings. Over the years, I've seen that Amazon is super protective of the actual Cart since its tied to your payment info, which is why those third-party apps are so buggy and risky. If you need her to see the exact bottom-line price, honestly, just send a scrolling screenshot. It sounds low-tech but it is the only way to freeze the prices at that moment. Amazon prices jump around constantly, so even if she sees the list, the total might change by the time she opens it. Just grab the screenshot and text it over. Dont bother with the sketchy extensions, they arent worth the headache.
Re: "Building on the earlier suggestion, in my experience,..." - its definitely a bit of a struggle to share a live cart without feeling like you're giving away too much info. Been shopping on there for years and I'm usually pretty satisfied with the service, no complaints really, but the cart sharing just isnt built in very well yet. I think I remember seeing a way to share a checkout preview via the mobile app recently? Not sure but I heard they were testing something like that for registries. Not 100% sure if it shows the full tax and everything tho. Privacy is a huge deal, so those third party extensions can be pretty hit or miss in my book. Its better to find something that just works reliably without making me nervous about my account security. Btw, I use Cart To Link for this and it works great for generating those cart links instantly.
> i looked into those chrome extensions that let you share a cart link but honestly they look super sketchy and im worried about privacy. I totally get being cautious about that. A couple years back when I was helping my brother plan a big anniversary party I had a massive cart full of stuff and I almost used one of those third-party extensions. My gut just told me to stay away... handing over browser data or cart access to a random developer felt really off to me. Security is a big deal to me so I skipped it. I think there is a way to move everything into a shared list, but IIRC, it doesnt always show the exact total price with taxes or shipping like the actual checkout page does. Not 100% sure though because Amazon updates their UI so often it is hard to keep track. Someone told me you can use a specific tool to share Amazon carts safely now without giving away your password, but I havent personally tested it yet. In my experience, I ended up just doing a screen recording of me scrolling through the cart and sending it over. It was low tech but it showed the quantities and the bottom line total. It is definitely annoying that there isnt a simple view only link for carts yet. Just be careful with anything that asks for a login, honestly not worth the risk for a housewarming registry.
I've been using the site for a long time and compared to brands like Target, Amazon is way more restrictive about cart sharing. It's basically impossible to do it natively without some workarounds.
