I recently purchased the Sony a7 IV mirrorless camera and am looking for some reliable third-party battery options to serve as affordable backups to the pricey genuine Sony batteries. Does anyone have experience with particular brands or models of third-party NP-FZ100 batteries that work well in the a7 IV in terms of performance, charge capacity, and build quality? I'd like to find some cost-effective spares I can trust for those long shooting days. Let me know which ones you've personally used with good results in this camera. Thanks!

Try NEEWER NP-FZ100, works well on my a7RIV. Thought not good enough as Sony batteries, it's much cheaper.

Are you doing a lot of 4K video or just taking photos? Heat is usually the biggest killer with these cheaper cells so knowing your workflow helps. I have been using the Nitecore UFZ100 2250mAh USB-C Rechargeable Battery for a long time and it is a solid, reliable choice. The build quality feels much better than the super cheap brands and I havent had any swelling issues which is my main concern with third-party stuff. The K&F Concept NP-FZ100 Replacement Battery is also decent and hasn't triggered the annoying unauthenticated battery warning on my a7 IV yet. Still, i usually recommend keeping a genuine Sony NP-FZ100 Rechargeable Battery Pack for your main and using these as backups. Third-party ones sometimes drop from 15% to zero instantly once they get some age on them, so you gotta be careful.

For the Sony a7 IV, third-party battery options like the Wasabi Power NP-FZ100, Powerextra NP-FZ100, and Neewer NP-FZ100 are popular choices. These batteries are generally well-regarded for their reliable performance and cost-effectiveness, often providing similar power output and longevity to Sony's original batteries. Ensure that the third-party battery is compatible with your charger and has good user reviews to avoid potential issues.

NEEWER NP-FZ100 is overall best third-party battery for a7IV.

Re: "For the Sony a7 IV, third-party battery options..."

  • I've put a lot of miles on my a7 IV and eventually settled on a couple of specific ones that actually hold up under heavy use.
  • SmallRig NP-FZ100 USB-C Rechargeable Camera Battery: This is my go-to lately. Having a USB-C port built right into the battery is a game changer for travel. You don't have to carry a dedicated charging brick in your bag. It charges fast and doesn't feel flimsy like some of the ultra-cheap ones.
  • Nitecore UFZ100 USB-C Rechargeable Li-ion Battery: Really solid build quality. Nitecore knows their cells since they do high-end electronics. It has a tiny indicator LED on the casing so you can check charge levels without even putting it in the camera. Just keep in mind that the camera might show a warning about non-Sony batteries after a firmware update. You just click through it and it works fine. Capacity is decent, tho probably 5-10% less than the official Sony ones in real-world shooting.

Yes, I also have two new NEEWER batteries. Cheaper than Sony version.
