I'm a wedding photographer who recently switched to Sony mirrorless cameras (currently using an A7 IV). I'm looking to upgrade my flash setup to something that will work well with the Sony system for weddings and events.
I'd love to get some recommendations on the best flashes and wireless trigger systems for my needs. I typically shoot the wedding ceremony, formal portraits, and reception, so the flash needs to be powerful and versatile enough to handle a range of lighting situations.
Some key features I'm looking for:
- TTL compatibility with Sony cameras
- High speed sync (HSS)
- Decent power (guide number)
- Bounce and swivel head
- Wireless triggering with reliability and good range
- Reasonable recycle times
- Good battery life
I've been considering options like the Sony HVL-F60RM2, Godox V1, Godox V1Pro and Profoto A1, but open to other suggestions as well based on your experiences. My budget is flexible for the right flash.

As a fellow wedding photographer who made the switch to Sony mirrorless, I can relate to your search for the ideal flash setup. I've tried out several options over the past couple years, and here are my top recommendations based on the criteria you listed:
1. Godox V1-S ($259):
- TTL compatibility with Sony
- HSS up to 1/8000s
- Powerful GN 92 (at ISO 100)
- Magnetic round head with bounce and swivel
- Reliable 2.4GHz wireless X system with 100m+ range
- 1.5s recycle time at full power
- 480 full power flashes per charge
The Godox V1-S has been my go-to for the past year. It ticks all the boxes at a very reasonable price point. The round head gives a nicer catchlight and the magnetic accessories are handy. Pairs seamlessly with the Godox XPro-S trigger ($69).
2. Profoto A10 for Sony ($995):
- TTL with Sony
- HSS up to 1/8000s
- GN 76 (at ISO 100)
- 360° bounce and 120° swivel
- Profoto AirTTL wireless with 300m+ range
- 1.2s recycle time at full power
- 350 full power flashes per charge
If budget allows, the Profoto A1 is a top-tier option. Build quality and reliability are excellent. The A1 can also be used as a wireless trigger for other Profoto lights. Downside is the premium price.
3. Sony HVL-F60RM2 ($598):

The Sony brand option is solid, but falls short of the Godox V1-S in a few areas (power, wireless range, battery life) while costing over twice as much. Go with the Godox or Profoto unless you need to stick with all Sony gear.
