Considering buying a Sony A7iv with a 24-70mm f/2.8 lens, but unsure. As a semi-pro photographer/videographer new to mirrorless, should I wait for the A7v or explore other options? Is the A7iv still competitive in 2024? How significant might A7v improvements be? Are there better alternatives for balanced photo/video performance? Seeking insights on the current mirrorless market, potential releases, and recommendations for a versatile, future-proof setup.

Wait for the a7 V? Man, life is too short for that! Honestly the Sony Alpha 7 IV Mirrorless Camera is an absolute powerhouse and it is gonna stay that way for years. Ive been shooting with it since launch and that 33MP sensor hits the sweet spot for detail without killing your hard drive space. Plus the autofocus is still basically magic compared to anything from a few years ago. Sure, the a7 V will probably get that fancy AI processing unit from the Sony Alpha 7R V and maybe better video frame rates, but do you really need 4K120 right now? Probably not! If you pair the body with the Sony FE 24-70mm F2.8 GM II, you have a kit that handles literally everything from weddings to corporate video. Seriously, that lens is sharp as hell... easily the best versatile zoom on the market. Dont overthink the tech specs too much... just get out there and start shooting! The a7 IV isnt suddenly gonna stop taking amazing photos just because a new box comes out next year. Go for it!

Buy A7IV now. Sell it later for A7V if desired. Starting photography sooner is worth potential $500 loss.
