Is the official Sony VG-C4EM actually worth the $400 or should I just grab the Neewer one for way less?
I have a huge 10-hour wedding shoot this Saturday in Chicago and I'm terrified of my a7R V dying mid-ceremony since I'm shooting 8k. Budget is super tight now after buying the body but I need reliability...
> Grab the Sony VG-C4EM I disagree tho. For 8K, a grip is limited. A Anker 737 Power Bank 24K provides 86Wh via USB-C PD, which is way more juice than two NP-FZ100 batteries.
Big if true

Honestly, I've been doing this for over a decade and seen every setup fail at least once. Back when I started, we didnt even have usb charging, so you just carried 20 batteries like a pack mule. I went through a phase of trying every cheap third-party grip because I was broke too, but man, those stories about the pins bending or the dial stopping mid-ceremony are real. Still, for 8k specifically, there is a way better way to handle the heat and power issues without just slapping a grip on it. Tbh just go search 'a7R V long term 8k power solutions' on youtube. There is this one creator who did a 40-minute deep dive comparing literally everything—grips, dummies, and pd banks. It explains the voltage drop issues way better than I can in a forum post. Reddit also has a huge megathread in the sonyalpha sub about this exact dilemma if you just search for it over there.
