ive been shooting with the a7 iv for a year now mostly doing studio stuff but im losing my mind trying to pack for this tokyo trip. everything i own is just way too bulky and heavy. i tried fitting my usual rig into a small carry-on and it is a total disaster. i need to slim down the kit fast.
im struggling with power because shooting 4k all day just shreds the battery. do i go with a pd power bank or just buy more z100s? also my current strap is killing my neck after an hour. what are you guys actually using that doesnt weigh a ton...
Tokyo street shooting requires a precise power setup for 4K. I would suggest being careful with generic power banks; make sure it supports at least 30W Power Delivery output to keep up with the sensor draw.
To add to the point above: honestly just grab two extra Sony NP-FZ100 Rechargeable Battery Pack and a Nitecore USN4 Pro Dual Slot USB-C QC Charger. Way lighter for travel and fits the budget! Also, try the Peak Design Cuff Camera Wrist Strap Black. It’s amazing for street stuff and saves your neck. You are gonna have a blast in Tokyo, it is literally the best place for photos!
> i need to slim down the kit fast.budget: around 500 bucks max To add to the point above: I totally get the struggle! I did a two-week run through Shinjuku last year with my a7 IV and my neck was basically trash by day three because I used a thick padded strap that caught on my jacket. I switched to the Peak Design Leash Camera Strap and it was a total game changer since its so thin and easy to tuck away when you are vlogging. It handles the weight fine but feels way less bulky than the Slide when you are moving through crowds. For power, if you wanna save cash and weight, I started using the SmallRig NP-FZ100 USB-C Rechargeable Camera Battery. These things are amazing because you literally just plug a USB-C cable straight into the battery itself. No more carrying a bulky external charger in your bag! I found they hold a charge almost as well as the originals for way less money, which helps stay under that 500 dollar limit. Also, since you are doing 4K, make sure your cards are fast enough so the buffer doesnt stall your street shots. I swear by the Lexar Professional 1667x 128GB SDXC UHS-II Card. Cheap but handles the V60 bitrate perfectly for Tokyo street b-roll... honestly saved my life when I was filming at Shibuya Crossing!
