I'm new to vlogging and just got the Sony ZV-E1. I'm looking for recommendations on the best lenses to use for vlogging. I want something versatile for different shooting situations, with good autofocus performance since I'll be filming myself often. Compact and lightweight options would be ideal for travel. What lenses do you recommend for achieving great video quality with the ZV-E1? Thanks!

FE 20mm f/1.8 G lens is the best vlogging lens.

@Reply #3 - good point! Honestly, I learned that lesson the hard way too. Back when I first started vlogging, I thought I needed the biggest, heaviest gear to look like a pro. I ended up with a setup so heavy I actually stopped taking it out because it was such a chore. Over the years, I've realized that the best gear is the stuff that actually makes it out of the bag. Here is what I've learned about keeping it reliable:

  • Stick with native lenses from Sony if you can. In my experience, the autofocus is just more consistent when you're filming yourself and cant see the screen perfectly. Just get any of their compact ones and you're golden.
  • Go with their newer small primes... you wont regret the weight savings when you're holding that camera at arms length for ten minutes.
  • If you want to save some cash, the third-party wide-angle zooms from the big brands are fantastic these days and usually way lighter. Its all about balance tho. You want something that wont kill your arm but is built well enough to handle a bit of travel dust and some bumps. Reliability is everything when you're shooting solo...

I spent a ton on heavy glass when I first started, thinking expensive meant better vlogging. My arm was dead after ten minutes and I actually almost dropped the whole thing because it was so front-heavy. You really gotta watch out for the weight. Since the ZV-E1 is full frame, you might want to consider staying away from the bulky G-Master stuff if you are traveling. I would suggest looking at these to save some cash and weight:

  • Tamron 20-40mm f/2.8 Di III VXD is a killer value. Its light and the 20mm start is wide enough to handle the stabilization crop.
  • Samyang AF 18mm f/2.8 FE is super affordable and weighs almost nothing, which is great for long days. Make sure to test the dynamic active stabilization before you commit to a lens though. It crops the image so much that a normal lens becomes really tight. I learned that the hard way and ended up with a bunch of footage that was basically just my forehead... kinda embarrassing tbh.

For versatile vlogging with your Sony ZV-E1, consider the Sony 16-35mm f/4 lens. It offers a flexible zoom range, compact design, and reliable autofocus, making it ideal for various shooting scenarios.
