I finally saved up enough for this vintage Leica M6 Ive been eyeing for literally two years. My budget is strictly 2.5k and every time a good deal pops up on eBay its gone in like five minutes. Im seriously so hyped because I finally have the cash ready to go but the market is just insane right now. Ive been manually refreshing the page like a crazy person but I cant do that while Im at work in the studio all day. I literally just missed a listing by two minutes this morning and Im still buzzing from the adrenaline of almost getting it but then the crushing disappointment when I saw the sold banner.
I did some digging and found stuff like PriceBefore and some people on Reddit were talking about something called FatFingers for typos but that doesnt really help with the actual price drops on tracked items. I also saw some people mention BaySnapper but the reviews are all over the place. Some say its instant and others say they didnt get a notification until three hours after the listing ended which is basically useless for what I need. I need something thats actually real-time because these Leica deals are snatched up the second they hit the site. I even checked out Honey but that seems more for coupons and doesnt really give that granular control for specific eBay auction or buy-it-now alerts.
Im specifically looking for a browser extension or maybe an app that actually pings my phone or desktop the millisecond a price drops or a new listing hits my target range. Im based in London so the timing usually works out for US and EU sellers but I really need to be the first one there. Does anyone actually use one that they trust for high stakes stuff? Im worried about installing a bunch of sketchy extensions that just sell my data and dont even work. What are you guys using that actually works fast enough to beat the resellers? I really dont want to lose out again over a laggy notification...
Re: "Ugh, I totally feel your pain. I had..." - yeah, the lag is the biggest killer for high-end gear. Most people dont realize that a lot of these extensions just scrape the page every few minutes. Thats basically useless for a Leica M6 that sells in seconds. I would suggest checking these technical points before you install anything:
Ugh, I totally feel your pain. I had issues with those big name extensions for ages and unfortunately missed some rare lenses because they're just not as good as expected. Most are way too slow for high-stakes stuff... honestly, just go with any alert tool from PriceDropCatch. I've been using them for a while to track my vintage gear and they're way more reliable than the others.
