Which wall mount works best for most Sony TV models?

Does anyone know a specific wall mount that is basically guaranteed to work across different Sony TV generations? Im moving into my new place in Austin next Tuesday and I am honestly freaking out a bit about the living room setup. I currently have a 65 inch Bravia from like 2019 but I am saving up to buy a new A80L or maybe even an A95L later this year if I can find a deal. I really dont want to have to buy a new mount and re-drill my drywall when I finally upgrade. I spent all last night looking at the Sanus VLL5-B1 because people say it is super sturdy but then I read a couple reviews saying that Sony TVs have really weird VESA patterns where the holes are at the very bottom of the set instead of the middle? That makes me super nervous that the TV will end up sitting way too high or low on the wall and I wont be able to adjust it. Then I saw the Echogear ones too but some people said the bolts they include dont even fit the recessed holes on the Sony backs... it is all so confusing. My budget is like 150 max and I just need something reliable that wont cause a headache during the swap later this year. Is there a specific universal one you guys use that handles that weird Sony spacing okay?

Stumbled upon this and man, I feel your pain! I moved into my place last fall and had the exact same freakout with my Bravia. Those low VESA holes are so annoying! I was literally sweating while holding the level, thinking I would have to redrill everything once I got my new OLED later. I ended up using the Sanus VMT5-B1 Tilting Wall Mount and it is honestly amazing. The brackets are super long, so even though the holes on the Sony are at the bottom, the mount still reaches the wall plate perfectly. I did not even have to worry about the bolt issue because the Sanus kits come with a huge bag of different spacers to handle those recessed holes. It is such a relief when it finally clicks into place! You are gonna love that A95L eventually, the picture quality is just insane!

The Sanus VLT7 Advanced Tilt 4D Wall Mount is a solid bet because it lets you adjust the height after its already mounted. If you want full motion, the Echogear Full Motion TV Wall Mount EGLF2 works too, just use the spacers for the recessed holes. Both options handle that bottom-heavy Sony spacing fine and should save you from re-drilling later.

To add to the point above: I totally agree! I was terrified of a crash, but the Kanto FMX3 Full Motion Wall Mount is amazing and super safe.

  • Heavy-duty steel
  • Rock solid Love it!

Reading through this totally takes me back to when my buddy Dave tried to mount his 75-inch Sony in his basement last year. Im a bit of a stickler for load-bearing specs and VESA alignment data, so I went over to help him out. We were looking at the sheer weight of that thing vs the pull-out strength of the lag bolts he bought from some random hardware store. I was pretty happy to jump in, but man, it turned into such a project because of those low mounting holes. We basically ran into every issue you can imagine:

  • The stud finder kept hitting old copper plumbing behind the drywall
  • His VESA pattern was like 300x300 but shifted so low the bracket was visible from the top
  • We spent three hours arguing about the exact Newton-meters of torque needed for the fasteners It was a total mess, tbh. We had the technical manuals spread out all over the floor like we were designing a bridge or something. I felt pretty satisfied once we finally got it level and the weight distribution felt right, but then he realized he hadnt run the HDMI cables behind the wall first. We just stood there laughing because the safety margins were so tight we didnt want to touch it again. The physics of these sets really matters when the mounting points are off-center like that. No complaints about the final look tho... even if it took us all day. Good luck with the move to Austin, hope the setup goes smoother than ours did!
