So I am beyond annoyed at this point because I keep fumbling around in my basement living room trying to change the volume or hit the home button on my Sony Bravia and I literally cannot see a thing. I have an older XBR model from like 2018 or 2019 and the remote it came with is just this black plastic slab with no lights at all. I tried buying one of those cheap $15 knockoffs from Amazon that claimed to be backlit but the buttons felt like mush and it didnt even pair right for the voice commands. I spent like two hours yesterday looking through forums and I keep seeing people talk about the RMF-TX611U or the TX621U but then I read a comment saying those only work perfectly with the newer OLED sets and might not control the settings menu on older Bravias. Im just trying to find one official Sony remote that has the backlight and actually works with every single Bravia model because I dont want to keep wasting money on shipping stuff back. My budget is like 50 bucks maybe 60 if its really good because I have a movie night this Saturday and I really need to stop using my phone flashlight like a total idiot. Does anyone know for sure if the newer premium silver remotes are backwards compatible for the basic infrared stuff and the backlight?...
Unfortunately, even the Sony RMF-TX910U Premium Backlit Remote might lose voice sync on 2018 sets. It's frustratingly common because the older Bluetooth stacks just dont play nice with the newer BLE remote protocols.
I am really satisfied with the Sony RMF-TX621U Premium Backlit Remote Control honestly. It works well with almost every Bravia since 2016 because it still uses standard IR codes for basic functions.
> @Reply #2 - good point! > Unfortunately, even the Sony RMF-TX910U Premium Backlit Remote might lose voice sync on 2018 sets. Saw this earlier but just getting home and wanted to weigh in. I totally agree about the sync issues on the high-end silver remotes. It is so frustrating when you drop 60 bucks and the voice search just dies every three days. Honestly, I had issues with that exact thing on my old set last year and it drove me crazy. Ngl, those cheap clones you found are legit dangerous sometimes too. I tried a generic backlit one once and the battery compartment actually started smelling like burnt plastic after a week... felt like a total safety hazard. If you want something reliable, you should look at the Sony RMF-TX520U Backlit Voice Remote Control. It is usually a bit cheaper than the silver premium ones but feels way more stable on those 2018-2019 XBR models. The 520U seems to handle the older Bluetooth protocols way better than the brand new 900-series stuff. Plus the buttons are actually tactile and clicky. Just make sure you buy the genuine Sony version because the safety and build quality on the fakes is just not there. It sucks that we have to jump through these hoops just to see the buttons at night tho... definitely let me know if that one works for you!
