So I finally saved up enough to buy that Sony Bravia TV everyone talks about—I think its the X90L or something like that, I got it at the Best Buy here in Austin last weekend—and the picture is honestly incredible but Im kind of freaking out about the sound. I thought for that much money it would sound like a movie theater but it just feels a bit thin? I dont know if thats the right word. My friend told me I have to get a soundbar but I have literally no idea where to even start and looking at Amazon just made me more confused.

My logic was that since its a Sony TV I probably should get a Sony soundbar so they talk to each other better? Or does that not matter? I saw something about Bravia Sync on the box but I dont know if thats a real thing or just marketing stuff. Im really worried about buying something that wont plug in right. I looked at the back of the TV and there are all these HDMI holes and one says eARC/ARC and I have no clue what that means or if I need a special cable for it.

Im on a bit of a budget now since the TV was so expensive, maybe like $400 max? I want it to sound clear, especially the talking parts because sometimes the music is so loud I cant hear what people are saying. I also live in a pretty small apartment with thin walls so I dont want something thats gonna shake the floor and get me a noise complaint from the guy downstairs. Do I need one of those big square boxes that goes on the floor or can the long bar thing do it all by itself? Sorry if these are really basic questions I just dont want to waste money on something that doesnt work with my setup. Should I just stick with Sony or are brands like Sonos or Samsung okay too? I am just so scared of it being a huge headache to set up...

To add to the point above: that eARC port is basically just a high-bandwidth channel for uncompressed audio. Its way more reliable than older optical connections. Quick tip: make sure you use a high-speed cable like the Zeskit Maya 8K 48Gbps Ultra High Speed HDMI Cable to prevent audio dropouts or handshake failures. I need to ask one thing first tho: how wide is the surface you're putting the TV on? The X90L has those adjustable feet, but if they are in the narrow position, a long soundbar might not fit between them. Knowing the clearance height is also important so you dont block the IR sensor on the bottom of the frame. For a small apartment, the Sony HT-A3000 3.1ch Dolby Atmos Soundbar is a decent option because it handles the processing internally without needing a floor sub. It helps with dialogue clarity via a dedicated center channel. If you want something even more compact, the Sonos Beam Gen 2 Compact Smart Soundbar is technically very impressive for its size. It has a night sound mode that keeps things quiet for neighbors while making voices pop. Both are pretty much plug-and-play with your Sony remote.

TL;DR: Stick with Sony for the best system integration. I am really satisfied with these two:

Honestly, I went through the exact same panic with my X90L last year! Everyone said to stick with Sony, but I actually ended up testing a Vizio M-Series M213ad-K8 All-in-One Soundbar and it has been amazing. Setup was cake. It doesnt have that big floor box you are worried about, but the sound still feels huge for my small place. Being able to finally hear what people are whispering in movies without cranking the volume is such a relief. Quick tip: once you plug it in, go into the Bravia settings and make sure Pass Through Mode is set to Auto. It fixed a tiny audio lag I had and made everything sync up perfectly! Usually the bar comes with the HDMI cable you need in the box too, so dont sweat that part. Dont stress too much about the brands matching because eARC makes everything play nice with your Sony remote anyway. You're gonna be so happy!

Bravia Sync is legit, but setup is scary. Over the years, Ive found these simple options:
