So I just started this new couch to 5k thing because my doctor told me I need to move more and I'm planning to join a local gym next week. I've always heard Sony makes the best stuff for music but looking at their website I am completely lost like there are so many numbers and letters its confusing. My logic was that bigger headphones would stay on better while running but then I thought wait wont my ears get like super sweaty?

I live in Florida so its already like a hundred degrees here and I dont want to ruin expensive gear with my sweat. I have about $250 saved up for this and I really need them to stay put when I'm doing like jumping jacks or whatever the trainer makes me do. There are a few things I'm scared of:

  • the headphones falling off my head
  • sweat breaking the electronics
  • them being too heavy when I'm tired

Are the ones with the noise cancelling stuff okay for sweat? I saw some called the XM something but people say they might slip off if you move too much. Im worried if I get the little earbud ones they will just fall out of my ears while I'm on the treadmill and I'll crush them lol. Sorry if this is a super basic question but I literally have no idea what I'm doing and I dont want to waste my money. Does Sony have a specific gym model or do I just pick one that looks cool?

Jumping in real quick because the technical side of this is actually super important for Florida weather. Ngl, most of those big XM headphones arent actually rated for water or sweat at all. If you look at the specs, they usually lack an IP rating entirely, which means a single humid afternoon in Florida could basically fry the internal PCB. Here are a few technical things you should look for:

  • IPX4 rating: This is the industry standard minimum for gym gear. It means the internals can handle splashes or sweat from any direction without shorting out.
  • Weight distribution: Over-ears have a high center of gravity. When you do jumping jacks, that centrifugal force is what makes them fly off.
  • Secure fit tech: You want something with 'fins' or 'wings' that lock into the concha of your ear. In my experience, something like the Sony LinkBuds S Noise Canceling Earbuds or even the Sony WF-C700N Noise Canceling Earbuds are much safer bets than the big ones. Quick question tho, do you usually find that standard silicone ear tips stay in your ears okay, or do they always pop out when you're just walking around? Knowing your ear shape helps a ton with picking the right design.

living in georgia i tried the big over-ear ones and they were not as good as expected. unfortunately the electronics glitched from sweat within a month. then they slid right off my head mid-sprint and hit the gym floor... so disappointing. basically theyre a trap for runners. honestly dont do it. stick to small ones. TL;DR: skip bulky ones; they cant handle moisture and will fly off.
