Which Sony cans should I grab for my 14-hour trek to Tokyo next month? Im so hyped for this trip but I cant decide between the WH-1000XM4 and the newer WH-1000XM5 and honestly I am leaning toward the XM4s because they actually fold up small and my carry-on is already super cramped.
But then I see everyone saying the noise cancelling on the XM5 is way better for that constant engine drone so now I am second guessing everything. I have a budget of about $350 so I can swing either if I find a deal before I leave NYC. Is the extra bulk of the XM5 gonna be a pain in the neck or is the silence worth it for such a long flight?
Think about the mechanics of your gear before you commit. The newer hinge design on the XM5 is a potential weak point compared to the reinforced folding parts on the older version.
Re: "Think about the mechanics of your gear before..." - neckbands are better for long flights. I use Sony WI-1000XM2 Wireless Noise Cancelling In-Ear Headphones because:
Honestly, I would suggest sticking with the Sony WH-1000XM4 Wireless Noise Cancelling Over-the-Ear Headphones for that trip. I've been in your shoes and you gotta be careful with the newer model because it doesnt fold at all. That case for the Sony WH-1000XM5 Wireless Noise Cancelling Headphones is basically the size of a dinner plate and it takes up way too much room in a cramped carry-on.
