I just got this a7R V and honestly I'm way over my head with all the buttons and settings. I spent way too much money on it for my nephews wedding in two weeks and now im realizing the battery life isnt great and it feels kind of small in my hands like im gonna drop it. I heard people talk about vertical grips but i have no idea what that really means or which one to buy. I saw one from Sony thats like $400 and my heart sank because i already spent all my savings on the body and a lens.

Are there other ones that wont blow up my camera? Im so scared of using a cheap one and ruining the electronics but $400 is just too much right now. Do the buttons even work on the cheaper ones like Neewer or whatever? I live in a small town so I have to order everything online and i dont want to get the wrong thing and have to deal with returns before the big day. Is the official Sony one really the only safe way to go or are there other brands that people actually trust for this specific camera model? I really dont want to mess this up because this camera is the most expensive thing i own...

Omg congrats on the a7R V! Its such an amazing camera! I was terrified of third-party stuff too but some are actually fantastic.

TL;DR: Meike MK-A7R IV Pro Vertical Grip or Vello BG-S7 Battery Grip are viable. Agree with previous suggestions, but be careful; I would suggest inspecting pins before mounting to avoid circuit damage.

Saw this late but listen, you dont need to drop four bills on plastic. In my experience, JJC VG-C4EM Replacement Vertical Battery Grip for Sony A7RV is the best value play.

  • Buttons feel tactile
  • Fits the a7R V perfectly
  • Way cheaper than OEM Honestly, just make sure you use Sony NP-FZ100 Rechargeable Lithium-Ion Battery inside it. Cheap third-party batteries are usually the real culprit for errors, not the grip itself.
