I'm looking to upgrade my camera soon, and the Sony a7 IV is currently high on my list. However, with all the rumors swirling around about the a7 V, I'm wondering if I should wait.

What's the latest consensus on when the a7 V might be released? I've seen some speculation about late 2025, and even some mentions of potential delays pushing it into early 2026. Is there any solid information out there, or is it all just speculation at this point?

Also, if the a7 V is coming out in late 2025 or early 2026, do you think it's worth waiting for? I've read rumors about a possible 33MP or even a 44MP sensor, improved autofocus with AI, and 4K 120fps video. These features sound amazing, but I don't want to wait forever if the release is uncertain.

I even saw one report that the a7 V announcement may happen before September 2025.

For those who are familiar with Sony's release cycles, does this timeline seem realistic? Also, how much of a price drop can we expect on the a7 IV once the a7 V is released?

Thanks in advance for any insights!

Just saw this thread and wanted to jump in. Before you commit to waiting a year, what kind of work are you actually doing with your gear? If you're doing mostly landscapes, that rumored 44mp sensor is a dream, but if you're doing fast action or video, it might be a double edged sword. My main caution here is that Sony might struggle with heat dissipation if they really do put the AI processing chip and 4K 120p into a standard a7 body. We saw how much Canon struggled with thermals on their earlier high-spec releases like the Canon EOS R5. If you're shooting weddings or long events, waiting for a v1.0 release of a high-res body can be risky tbh. Honestly, the Sony a7 IV is still incredibly solid compared to the Nikon Z6 II in terms of AF tracking, so you aren't exactly behind the curve. Do you find yourself hitting the resolution limit on your current setup often, or is it more about the high frame rates for you?
