Ive been doing this for years and Amazon loves to inflate the original price right before the sale starts. I learned that the hard way when I grabbed my first mirrorless and found out it was cheaper two weeks later at a local shop. A few things I suggest keeping in mind if you are trying to save money:

• Sony rarely does deep discounts on the newest bodies like the Sony Alpha 7R V. If you see a deal, its usually on older stuff like the Sony Alpha 7 III which is still a beast for the price.
• Watch the lens bundles. Sometimes the body is full price but they throw in a Sony FE 50mm f/1.8 for basically nothing.
• Compare with Nikon or Canon rebates. Sometimes the Canon EOS R6 Mark II goes on a way bigger sale than anything Sony has, so dont get tunnel vision on one brand if you want to save cash.
• Use a price tracker. Seriously. If the graph isnt at an all-time low, you are probably getting played. I usually find better value looking at the previous gen stuff anyway... the tech hasnt jumped that much for most hobbyists.

• avoid anything that looks too good to be true
• stay away from used stuff labeled as new i really wanted to find a killer deal but honestly it feels like a bit of a minefield this year... kinda sucks.
