Hi everyone,
I've been experiencing some issues with my Sony A7III camera recently. The autofocus doesn't seem to be working properly, and I'm hoping someone here might be able to help me out.
When I try to use the autofocus, the camera struggles to lock onto the subject, and sometimes it doesn't focus at all. I've tried different lenses and shooting modes, but the problem persists. The manual focus works fine, but I rely on the autofocus for most of my work.
I've checked the camera settings and everything seems to be configured correctly. I've also cleaned the lens contacts and the camera's sensor, but no luck so far.
Has anyone else encountered this issue with their A7III? If so, how did you resolve it? I'd appreciate any advice or suggestions you might have.
Thank you in advance for your help!

Before you panic and spend a fortune on a pro repair shop, check your AF Tracking Sens settings in the menu. Crank that up to 5 and it will stay locked on like crazy! Seriously amazing how much of a difference that one setting makes for stickiness. Also, check your lens firmware. If youre rocking something like the Tamron 28-75mm f/2.8 Di III RXD or even the Sony FE 85mm f/1.8, they often release free updates that fix these exact focus hunting issues. It saves so much cash compared to sending it in for servicing. Dont let the gear stress you out, its probably just a simple software tweak that wont cost you a dime!
First, a few questions to help narrow down the issue:
Here are a few things you can try:
Check the Focus Mode: Make sure you're using the correct focus mode for your situation. If you're shooting a moving subject, try using the "AF-C" (Continuous AF) mode. For stationary subjects, "AF-S" (Single-shot AF) should work well.
Adjust the Focus Area: Depending on your subject, you may need to adjust the focus area. For example, if you're trying to focus on a small subject, using the "Flexible Spot" focus area might help.
Perform an AF Microadjustment: If the issue is with a specific lens, you may need to perform an AF microadjustment. This can be done in the camera settings under the "AF Micro Adj." menu.
Update the Firmware: As mentioned earlier, make sure you have the latest firmware installed. Sony occasionally releases updates that can improve autofocus performance and fix bugs.
If none of these solutions work, it's possible that there may be a hardware issue with your camera or lens. In this case, I'd recommend sending your equipment to a Sony service center for professional diagnosis and repair.

- Does the autofocus problem occur with all lenses or just specific ones?
- Have you tried resetting the camera settings to default?
- Are you using the latest firmware version for your camera?
