I'm looking to invest in a new camera primarily for travel photography. I've narrowed it down to the Sony a7C II and the Sony a7 IV, but I'm having trouble deciding between the two.
The a7C II is more compact and lightweight, which is appealing for travel. However, the a7 IV has superior autofocus, higher resolution, and better low-light performance.
For those with experience using either (or both) of these cameras for travel photography, which would you recommend and why? I'd love to hear your thoughts on image quality, ease of use, and any other factors I should consider.
Thanks in advance!
Huh interesting. I had no idea. The more you know I guess 🤷
Caught this discussion late but honestly, like someone mentioned, the a7C II is the smarter buy if you want to save that $300. But I would suggest being careful about how it feels in your hand. I did a week in the mountains with a compact setup once and realized too late that my favorite Sony FE 24-105mm f/4 G OSS lens made the whole thing super front-heavy. It was kinda annoying to carry all day without a proper grip. Basically the thread so far is saying a7C II for size and a7 IV for the pro features. One thing to watch out for is the EVF... it is significantly smaller on the compact body. If you use the viewfinder a lot, it might feel like looking through a straw compared to the Sony a7 IV. Quick tip: Grab the Sony GP-X2 Extension Grip if you have larger hands. It adds almost no weight but makes the ergonomics way better for long days of shooting.

Ultimately, it boils down to your specific needs and preferences. Both cameras are excellent choices, so consider your priorities and go with the one that aligns best with your travel photography goals!Â
I prefer a7C II, more compact and newer.
