I recently purchased a Sony a7 IV and I'm looking for recommendations on reliable SD cards that can keep up with this camera's impressive capabilities. As we know, the a7 IV supports CFexpress Type A and UHS-II SD cards, but I'm specifically interested in SD card options.

What are your go-to SD cards for the a7 IV? I'm particularly concerned about write speeds for 4K video recording and fast burst shooting. Any specific brands or models you've had success with? Are there certain capacities you find most practical?

Get CFexpress Type A cards like Lexar CFexpress Type A Gold Series.

tbh I had a pretty rough time with some of the big name brands lately. My a7IV actually threw a nasty write error right in the middle of a client shoot last month using a super expensive card I thought was top-tier... it was so frustrating. Basically ruined the whole flow. I have realized that paying a premium doesnt always mean better reliability, especially with how picky the firmware can be sometimes. If you are trying to save some cash but still need that V90 speed for 4K video, I switched over to the Kingston Canvas React Plus V90 SDXC 128GB and it has been way more stable for half the price of the others. Another one that surprised me was the ProGrade Digital SDXC UHS-II V60 Gold 256GB. Even though it is V60, it handles almost everything the a7IV throws at it unless you are doing the absolute highest bitrate S&Q modes. Definitely shop around because the prices on those fluctuate a lot online. Just wish I hadnt wasted so much money on those fancy cards that ended up failing on me anyway.

For faster speed and good performance, get CFexpress Type A cards, such as Sony Tough G CFexpress Type A and Lexar CFexpress Type A Gold.

For budget choice, get UHS-II SD cards, such as SanDisk Extreme Pro UHS-II.

I've been using the SanDisk Extreme PRO SDXC UHS-II cards with my a7IV, and they've been working flawlessly. They're V90 rated, so they can handle the high bitrate 4K video without any issues. Plus, they're relatively affordable compared to some other high-end options. Just make sure you're getting the UHS-II version and not the older UHS-I cards.
