The current Sony a7IV was released in December 2021, so it's been over two years since the last a7 camera refresh. I'm really hoping we see the new a7V come out sometime in 2024. What are your thoughts on when we might see this new flagship hybrid mirrorless camera from Sony? What new features would you like to see?
Maybe Sony is waiting for Nikon Z6III 🤪
@sonyff So anyone knows the release date for Nikon Z6 III ? There is also little rumors on Nikon Z6 III yet.
Why you need a7 v, the currently a7 IV is good enough for most photographers. Just get it now and don't wait for a7v. 😏
@sora12 Just want to see what new features will a7 V have.
September 2024 release date - 50MP BSI Stacked Sensor - Dual Codecs (H.265 + H.266/VCC) - 8K 60p 10-bit internal recording - 4K 120p - 1080p 240fps slow motion - 5-axis IBIS + Digital Crop IS - 9.44m dot EVF - Dual CFexpress Type B slots - Multi-hinged rear screen - Improved menu system and build quality - $3999 MSRP?
Just speculating, but that's what I'd love to see in the next a7 V! What do you think of that spec list?
Personally, I wouldn't expect the a7V until early 2025 at the earliest. Sony seems to be updating their flagship models every 3-4 years recently. The a7R III came out in 2017, followed by the a7R IV in 2019 and then the a7R V in late 2022. If they follow that timeline, I think we're more likely to see an a7S IV towards the end of 2024 before the a7V next year.
I love these specs 😀 😀 😀September 2024 release date - 50MP BSI Stacked Sensor - Dual Codecs (H.265 + H.266/VCC) - 8K 60p 10-bit internal recording - 4K 120p - 1080p 240fps slow motion - 5-axis IBIS + Digital Crop IS - 9.44m dot EVF - Dual CFexpress Type B slots - Multi-hinged rear screen - Improved menu system and build quality - $3999 MSRP?Just speculating, but that's what I'd love to see in the next a7 V! Maybe at the end of 2024.
I'm definitely leaning towards the early 2025 crowd like @sonyfans mentioned. In my experience following Sony's release patterns over the years, they rarely rush the base model because it's their biggest seller and needs to be rock solid. Not sure but I think I heard a rumor that they're focusing heavily on a new thermal design for the next iteration to prevent any overheating issues. Honestly, having used almost every body in this line, the reliability is what keeps me around. I've tried many others but Sony usually waits until a feature is completely stable before putting it in the a7 series. Tbh, I'd much rather they take their time and give us a camera that can handle a full day of shooting without any hiccups. IIRC, the jump from the iii to the iv was huge for autofocus reliability, so I'm hoping the v focuses on that same kind of consistency... we'll see though.
Solid advice 👍
It is still early for a7 v, I searched the web, there is still no rumors about a7v.
Nice, didn't know that
I think Sony a7iv will be released sometime in late 2024 to early 2025, but after the Sony a7R VI.
just after a7rvi, we will see this camera probably in first half of 2025
2024 is too early for a7 v, most likely in 2025.
It's hard to say for sure, but I wouldn't hold my breath for an a7 V anytime soon. The a7 IV is still a very new camera and remains extremely popular and competitive, even at its high price point. I think Sony will try to maximize sales of the IV for at least another year or two before thinking about a successor.
I'm hoping for even better autofocus performance, higher resolution, and maybe 8K video capabilities.

@sonyff According to NR, Nikon Z6 III will be officially announced on June 11th.
Seems delayed again. 🤨 https://nikonrumors.com/2024/06/04/bad-news-adorama-and-bh-are-closed-next-week-low-chance-for-nikon-to-introduce-a-new-product-z6iii.aspx/
