I'm a professional videographer looking to upgrade my camera body, and the Sony a7S line has caught my eye due to its renowned low-light performance and video capabilities. The a7S III was released in 2020 and has impressive specs like 4K 120p, 10-bit 4:2:2 color, and a new 12MP full-frame sensor.

However, there are now rumors that an a7S IV may be released later this year or early next year. The a7S IV is speculated to have an even newer sensor, possibly 8K video, and other advanced video features.

I'm torn between picking up an a7S III now to use for upcoming projects or holding out for the potential a7S IV. The a7S III is already a beast of a camera and would be a big upgrade over my current setup. But the a7S IV could be a real game-changer if the rumors are true.

Do you think it's worth waiting for the a7S IV? Or is the a7S III more than enough camera for the next few years? I'd appreciate any insights from other videographers and Sony shooters. Thanks!

I would buy the a7S III now. It's an incredible camera that is more than enough for most video needs. The a7S IV may not come out for a year or more. And when it does, it will likely be a lot more expensive at first. The a7S III has great low light capability, great autofocus and a host of other features. I wouldn't hesitate getting it.

@Robert Yes, buy now and enjoy now, don't wait for a camera that hasn't released.
