My recommendation depends on your budget. If you can swing it, the Sony 16-35mm f/2.8 GM II is the best of the best for the Sony system. Unbeatable image quality and that bright f/2.8 aperture across the zoom range. Obviously it commands a premium price though. For a more affordable option that still performs great, check out the Sigma 14-24mm f/2.8 DG DN Art lens. Third party but impeccable optics at a lower cost than Sony's GM lens.

• I'm literally in the middle of this exact same struggle right now!! Just got my Sony a7CR and I'm so nervous about picking the wrong glass and wasting money or ending up with something too bulky. It is such an amazing little camera and I really dont want to ruin the balance!! Quick tips from my own trial and error process so far:
• Use a Sensei Optical Glass Screen Protector for the LCD while you are swapping lenses out in the field... safety first!
• Carry a Giottos Rocket Air Blaster Large and blow out the mount every single time you swap lenses to keep that sensor pristine. Really hoping we both figure this out soon because I'm dying to get out there and shoot some landscapes!! Seriously let us know what you end up with tho!!
