I recently purchased a Sony a7 IV mirrorless camera and am looking for the optimal external monitor to pair with it for video shooting and field work.
What monitors have you found work best with the a7 IV considering these criteria? Open to any brands or models. Thanks in advance for your suggestions!
Try the new released Atomos Shinobi II 5.2" HDMI HDR Monitor. This monitor is plenty bright, and super slim and lightweight.
Man I wish I found this thread sooner. Would have saved me so much hassle.

I own both Atomos Ninja 5.2 and Shinobi monitors. The Shinobi, being lighter, excels for video monitoring. If recording isn't necessary, opt for the Shinobi with a Smallrig cage and sunshield. I purchased Ninja 5.2's to bypass the 30-minute recording limit on Olympus cameras and extend battery life, particularly for the E-M5.iii. For handheld or gimbal use, the Shinobi is ideal. While I have less expensive monitors, they lack the build quality and durability of Atomos products, so I reserve them for static indoor setups. Overall, Atomos offers robust, versatile options for various filming scenarios, with the Shinobi standing out for its portability and the Ninja 5.2 for its recording capabilities.
I uses the Atomos Ninja 5.2" 4K HDMI Recording Monitor, works great on a7IV.
SmallHD monitors are better, but also more expensive.
