Ive been building gaming rigs for a decade so I know my way around a M.2 slot but Im getting really confused about the PS5 Pro specs vs the standard model. My Pro arrives this Friday and I need a 2TB drive ASAP before my library fills it up. I was looking at the FireCuda 530 but then read some weird thread saying the Pro might have different clearance for heatsinks compared to the base model or the slim?
I only have about 180 quid to spend and half the stuff on Amazon UK is out of stock. Is there a specific Gen4 drive that definitely fits both without me having to sand down a heatsink or something crazy? Which SSD is actually the best pick for the Pro right now?

Listen, ive been messin with pc builds and consoles since the ps3 era and i totally get the anxiety about clearance. The Pro and the Slim actually share the same internal design for the expansion bay mostly, but you definitely want to be careful with those chunky third-party heatsinks that look like miniature car radiators. Stick to the official ones that come pre-attached and youll be fine. Honestly, for about 180 quid, i would suggest the WD_BLACK SN850X 2TB NVMe SSD with Heatsink. Its basically the gold standard for ps5 right now. I put one in my base model and it fits like a glove, no sanding or weird mods needed. Its super reliable, though i always tell people to double-check that the screw is tightened just right... dont want it rattling around in there. Another solid bet is the Samsung 990 PRO 2TB NVMe SSD with Heatsink. It is stupidly fast and the slim profile of the samsung heatsink is really reliable for fitting into tight spots. Just a heads up tho, i might want to consider checking for firmware updates on a pc if you can before tossing it in, just to be safe. If those are out of stock on amazon uk, maybe look at the Crucial T500 2TB NVMe SSD with Heatsink. Its a bit newer and tends to run a bit cooler which is a big deal in that small console bay. Just watch that 11.25mm height limit and youll be golden. Reach out if you hit any snags during the install!
I was super nervous about breaking something when I first opened mine up. I ended up going with a really safe option and Ive been so happy with how its worked out.
