I am so hyped because I finally managed to snag a PS5 from a restock yesterday and now I am looking to overhaul my whole desk setup because it is a total mess of cables right now. I still have my PS4 Pro hooked up too since I have a huge backlog of games on there so I basically have four controllers total that need juice. I was looking at the official Sony DualSense charging station because it looks super sleek but then I realized it probably wont fit my DualShock 4s which is annoying. I saw some third party all in one docks on Amazon like the OIVO ones that claim to charge both types at once but then I read a few reddit threads saying those cheap chargers can actually ruin the battery life over time or even melt the ports if they dont have the right chips in them so now Im second guessing everything.

I have about $50 to spend on this and I really want to get it sorted by this weekend before my buddies come over for a gaming marathon. My logic was that a single dock would look way cleaner on my TV stand than having two separate blocks sitting there taking up space but I dont want to risk my new PS5 gear just to save twenty bucks. Are there any high quality brands that make a combo dock that is actually safe or should I just bite the bullet and buy two separate official chargers? I checked Best Buy near me but they only had the PS5 ones in stock...

Caught this thread a bit late but figure I would chime in. I went through a massive headache trying to find a one-size-fits-all dock when I first got my five. Tbh most of those combo units use cheap springs and pins that wear out fast. I actually ended up frying a DS4 port with a no-name brand a few years back so I am super cautious now. Heres what I did to stay under budget:

  • Grab the Sony PlayStation DualSense Charging Station for the new controllers. It is worth the thirty bucks for the peace of mind.
  • Hunt for a used PowerA DualShock 4 Charging Station on eBay or local shops. They usually go for like fifteen dollars.
  • Use some cheap velcro ties to bundle the power cables together behind the stand. Going official or licensed usually means better overcharge protection. It might not be one single block, but it saves you from buying new controllers in six months if the battery swells. Happy to chat more if you need help finding those older parts.
