My kids leave their controllers everywhere and theyre always dead. Wires are a total mess and I dont even know what fits what. I only have 30 bucks and I'm so confused by the stuff on Amazon. Sorry if this is dumb but is there a charging station that works for both PS4 and PS5 controllers?

Its actually kinda rare to find one dock that fits both perfectly because the physical charging ports are different. DualSense uses USB-C and pogo pins, while the older DualShock 4 uses Micro-USB and that EXT port. If you try to force them into the wrong cradle, you'll end up damaging the internal pins. With a 30 dollar limit, i suggest getting two separate docks. The PowerA Charging Station for DualSense is great for the PS5 controllers because it uses the bottom port, which is way more durable for kids. For the PS4 ones, the OIVO DualShock 4 Controller Charger Dock is cheap and has clear LED indicators. If you absolutely need one unit for both, look for the NexiGo Multi-Functional Controller Charger for PS5 and PS4, but just know those usually use small magnetic adapters that kids might lose. Let me know if you want more info on the power specs.

@Reply #2 - good point! Safety is huge! I had a cheap dock melt once, so scary! How many of each controller do you have tho? I love my PowerA Twin Charging Station for DualSense!

Honestly, I'd disagree slightly with just looking for the cheapest option that fits both controllers. I once picked up a generic dock that promised to charge everything and it ended up getting so hot it warped the plastic on my favorite pad... it was such a bummer. You really might want to consider just getting two separate stands from a reliable brand like PowerA instead of trying to find one unit for both. Safety is a huge deal with kids, so I usually look for:

  • Brands that have some kind of official licensing.
  • Docks that use the bottom connectors instead of the fragile top ports.
  • Units that have a bit of weight so they dont tip over easily. I would suggest just grabbing any stand from Sony. It might cost a tiny bit more than 30 bucks to get two, but you wont have to worry about batteries failing or cables melting. Better safe than sorry, imo... plus kids are rough on gear.
