Ive been a PlayStation guy since the PS2 days and I've always just stuck with the official Sony Gold or Platinum headsets because they were easy to sync up. Well my current pair of Golds is literally shedding black flakes all over my neck and the battery barely lasts two hours now so its definitely time for an upgrade. I managed to snag a PS5 a few months back but I still have my old PS4 Pro set up in the bedroom for when my wife is using the main TV. I really need something that can hot-swap the USB dongle between both consoles without a massive headache.
I was looking at the SteelSeries Arctis 7P+ because I heard the battery life is insane but then I saw some forum post saying the 3D audio implementation feels weird when you go back to older hardware. My budget is around 180 bucks and I mainly play stuff like Apex and single player RPGs like Horizon so I need that balance between clear comms and immersive sound.
Are there any specific models that actually handle the cross-gen thing perfectly without losing features like sidetone or needing a firmware update every time I change rooms? I've been looking at the Pulse 3D obviously but I heard the comfort isnt great for long sessions and I've got big ears lol. What are you guys using that works for both systems without acting up...

To add to the point above: I've honestly been pretty disappointed with the official Sony options lately. The build quality on the Sony PlayStation Pulse 3D Wireless Headset is just not there for the price, and like you mentioned, the comfort is nonexistent for anyone without tiny ears. It's frustrating because the software integration is great, but the physical hardware feels cheap and fragile. My old pair literally fell apart after a year. I had major issues with the official stuff flaking and snapping, so I ended up testing some alternatives that handle the PS4 to PS5 jump without making me regret the purchase:
- The Turtle Beach Stealth 700 Gen 2 MAX Wireless for PlayStation is probably your best bet for hot-swapping between the living room and bedroom. It has a dedicated slider on the USB dongle that makes it plug-and-play for both consoles. The battery is around 40 hours, which isnt insane compared to some others, but it wipes the floor with your two-hour Golds.
- If you really care about your ears not hurting, the Razer BlackShark V2 Pro 2023 Edition Wireless is the way to go. It uses plush memory foam that actually fits over big ears. Unfortunately, you do lose the on-screen volume overlay youre used to with Sony headsets, which is a bummer, but the mic quality for Apex is way better. One practical tip... dont bother with the Sony PlayStation Pulse Elite Wireless Headset even if you find it on sale. The planar magnetic drivers sound cool in theory but they're not as good as expected for the price and the fit is weird. Stick to the Turtle Beach or Razer and save the extra cash for games. Honestly, spending more than 180 on a console headset usually isnt worth it tho.

Over the years, I've tried many sets and this one handles the swap between PS4 and PS5 perfectly without any software headaches. It's basically a reliable workhorse... sound signature is very balanced for RPGs and shooters alike.
