Anyone know a legit charging dock that fits both DualSense and DualShock 4 controllers? I just got my PS5 and I'm so stoked but still use DS4s for co-op. I saw some off-brand ones on Amazon but reviews say they get super hot and I'm worried about frying my battery since I only have $35 to spend.

Look, I've tried many cheap docks over the years and honestly most of the ones claiming to do both are junk. In my experience, the heat build-up on those off-brand combos is a massive red flag. Since you're on a budget, I'd suggest sticking to something reliable like the PowerA Twin Charging Station for DualSense. It's usually under $25 and uses the bottom pins which is way safer for the battery long-term. For the DS4 co-op nights, just grab a Cable Matters 2-Pack Micro USB Cable 10ft. It's much safer than a sketchy hybrid dock. If you really want a stand for both, the OIVO PS5 Controller Charging Dock is okay if you find the one with the specific adapters, but I still prefer separate setups for safety. Dont risk your gear for a cheap all-in-one gimmick just to save a few bucks. Better to buy one good one than two bad ones.

Man, congrats on the PS5! It's seriously such a game changer and I'm still obsessed with mine. I totally get the struggle of trying to keep the old DS4s alive for split-screen nights without breaking the bank. I was in the exact same spot last year and was terrified of those random cheap ones melting my gear! I ended up finding the OIVO Dual Charging Station for PS5 and PS4 Controllers and honestly it's been fantastic. It has specific spots for both types so you don't have to swap cables constantly. It only set me back about $22 which left me enough for a cheap indie game too! The build quality feels way better than the generic stuff and it hasn't overheated once. Def check it out if you want to stay under that $35 limit!

Saw this a few hours ago and just had to hop in because I am totally obsessed with battery safety! I am super cautious about my gear and literally spent weeks researching this when I got my PS5. Finding a single dock that does both DualSense and DS4 is actually super tricky because they use totally different ports... kind of a nightmare tbh. I went through a few different setups before finding what worked for me. I initially looked at some combo docks but most of them felt super cheap and flimsy. Here is my experience with a couple:

  • NexiGo DRP-8559 Dual Controller Charging Station is one of the few that actually tries to bridge the gap using magnetic adapters. It is super convenient but those tiny adapters are easy to lose if you arent careful.
  • PowerA Twin Real Charging Station for PS4 is what I ended up keeping for my legacy controllers. It is so reliable and uses the bottom EXT port which is way safer than the micro-USB on top. I tried one of those no-name all-in-one docks from a random brand and it got warm enough to make me nervous after just twenty minutes. Definitely not worth the risk imo. If you really want to stay under $35, honestly, grab a high-quality Anker 543 USB-C to USB-C Cable 140W for the DualSense and just use a separate stand. Just make sure whatever you buy mentions overcharge protection in the specs because thats the real lifesaver for your batteries! Controllers are too expensive to fry lol.
