Hey everyone! I’m currently dealing with a major cable mess on my entertainment center and could really use some advice. I’m still regularly playing a mix of older PS4 favorites and new PS5 titles, which means I have both DualShock 4 and DualSense controllers constantly lying around. Right now, I’m just plugging them into the console ports with various cords, but it looks super cluttered and I’m always running out of available USB slots.
I’m looking for a reliable charging dock, but I’m torn on the best setup. Since the PS4 uses Micro-USB and the PS5 uses USB-C, I haven't seen many 'hybrid' docks that look trustworthy. I’m a bit worried about some of the cheaper third-party brands on Amazon potentially overheating or damaging the internal batteries. I’d really prefer something with a solid 'click-in' design so I’m not fiddling with the alignment every time I set them down. My budget is around $40-$60, but I’m willing to pay more for quality.
Has anyone found a specific multi-functional dock that handles both controller generations well, or is it better to just buy the official Sony ones for each console separately? I'd love to hear what you guys are using to keep your setup organized!
sooo, honestly, i would suggest staying away from those all-in-one hybrid docks. i've tried many over the years and the power draw difference between micro-usb and usb-c is just too sketchy for most cheap brands to handle safely... you definitely don't want to fry your Sony DualSense Wireless Controller just to save a little shelf space. in my experience, keeping them separate is way better for the battery health long-term. for your ps5, the Sony PlayStation DualSense Charging Station is basically the gold standard for that "click-in" feel you're looking for. for the ps4, since official ones are harder to find now, i'd go with the PowerA DualShock 4 Charging Station. it's officially licensed so it actually regulates the voltage properly. ur looking at maybe $55 total for both? it basically solves the cable mess while keeping ur gear safe. anyway, hope that helps! 👍
Building on the earlier suggestion, I am totally with you on being super cautious about those hybrid docks! I am always worried about frying my internal batteries, especially since my apartment has some really old wiring that makes me nervous about any electronics. Honestly, if you want to stay within budget and avoid the sketchiness, I have had amazing results by splitting it up. I use the PowerA DualSense Charging Station for PS5 which cost me way less than the official Sony one but it clicks in so perfectly! For my older controllers, I picked up a HyperX ChargePlay Duo for PS4 and it works like a charm without taking up a ton of room. It is funny cuz trying to organize my desk actually led me down this massive rabbit hole of cable management videos on YouTube last night. I ended up ordering these tiny velcro ties and spent four hours labeling every single power brick under my desk... my cat was literally batting at the wires the whole time and I almost tripped over him twice. I think I might have a problem with over-organizing stuff now lol. But yeah, definitely grab two separate docks from reputable brands instead of a weird all-in-one!
Works great for me
In my experience, hybrid docks are highkey sketchy cuz those ports use different power draws. I've seen cheap ones ruin batteries... its a headache you dont want!! Sticking to official Sony brands is way safer. But real quick, are you trying to keep everything on one shelf, or do you have space to split them up?? Also, is that $60 budget for one unit or for both generations?? peace
Saw this thread earlier and man, I feel your pain so much! The cable mess is seriously the bane of my existence right now. A few days ago, I spent like half a day just trying to organize my shelf and it still looks like a disaster zone... basically a bird nest of micro-usb and usb-c. Honestly its ridiculous that we even have to deal with this! It feels like companies just want to sell us more plastic instead of actually making something that works for everyone who didnt just throw away their PS4. Testing out those random cheap docks was a total nightmare too. One got so hot I thought it was gonna burn my house down, ngl. Its just so frustrating how hard it is to find anything high quality that doesnt involve having five different things plugged into the wall. Like why is a clean setup so much to ask for?? It totally kills the vibe when you just wanna sit down and play but you gotta spend ten minutes untangling a cord first! It drives me crazy!
