Does anyone have a lead on a PS5 controller charging dock that actually works and doesnt feel like a cheap piece of plastic? I am honestly so fed up with this random brand one I bought off Amazon last month. It was like twenty bucks and it felt okay at first but now I have to wiggle the controllers for like ten minutes just to get the orange light to stay on and half the time I wake up to play some God of War and the things are totally dead. Its so frustrating when I only have like an hour to play after the kids go to bed and I end up having to sit two feet away from the TV because the cord is too short since I forgot to charge.

The dock sits on my media console in our living room here in Chicago where it gets dusty fast and maybe thats the problem but I really just want something heavy enough that it doesnt slide around every time I touch it. I tried just using the front USB port on the console but my cat thinks the hanging wire is a toy and she already yanked one controller off the shelf and cracked the trigger button so cables are a no-go for me now. I looked for the official Sony DualSense charging station at my local Best Buy but they are always out of stock and the ones online are marked up by resellers which I refuse to pay out of principle.

I need something reliable and solid that:

  • fits two controllers at once
  • uses the click-in pins on the bottom not the usb-c port on top
  • has a heavy base so it doesnt move when I dock them
  • stays under 40 bucks if possible

Is there a specific brand you guys swear by? I saw some PowerA ones and maybe a Razer one but I dont know if they are just paying for the name or if they actually hold up over time. Just sick of wasting money on junk that breaks...

Honestly, i went through a couple of those cheap knockoffs myself before i finally landed on the PowerA DualSense Charging Station for PlayStation 5. It is definitely the way to go if you cant find the official sony one. Ive been using mine for about a year now and its been rock solid. It uses the click-in pins on the bottom like you wanted which is way better than fumbling with those tiny usb-c adapters that some of the generic ones use. The base has a decent weight to it so it doesnt slide all over my media cabinet when im trying to dock the controllers after a late night session. One thing i really appreciate is the tactile click feel when you push them down. You know exactly when they are seated correctly. Since you mentioned the dust in Chicago, a quick tip is to just wipe the gold contacts on the bottom of the controllers with a dry q-tip every once in a while. Sometimes skin oils or dust build up there and thats what causes that annoying flickering light or charging issues. I found mine for like twenty-five bucks which is totally fair for the build quality. It definitely feels more premium than the hollow plastic junk you see on those generic amazon listings. It handles two controllers perfectly and i havent had a single dead battery surprise since i switched. No complaints at all, it just works well every time.

Saw this today. Ive tried many docks over the years and most fail because the spring tension on the pins is garbage. Dust usually kills the contact conductivity fast. Quick question tho, is the dust mostly pet hair or fine grit?

> I saw some PowerA ones and maybe a Razer one but I dont know if they are just paying for the name To add to the point above: I actually have to disagree with the usual PowerA recommendations because they are just too light for a house with pets or kids. My cats used to knock my controllers out of alignment constantly because the base had zero ballast... so annoying. I tried the Razer Quick Charging Stand for PS5 and it was a huge disappointment for me personally. The pogo pins felt flimsy and for that price, I expected way more heft. I finally grabbed the HyperX ChargePlay Duo for PS5 and it is much better for a dusty living room. The base is actually weighted so it doesnt slide around when you dock things. Quick tip: if the charging gets wonky, use a q-tip with some Amazon Basics 99% Isopropyl Alcohol to clean the dock pins.
