I finally snagged a PS5 Pro for delivery next Friday but I'm panicking because it doesnt include the vertical stand. My media console is way too narrow to lay it flat so it has to stand up, but I have a clumsy cat who will definitely try to knock it over. Im torn between the official Sony stand and the NexiGo one with the extra vents.
Is the official Sony one worth it or are the third party ones actually stable? I really dont want to risk a $700 console on a cheap base...
Unfortunately, I've had issues with generic stands before. One I bought was so light my cat basically nudged it an inch every time he walked by. It felt incredibly flimsy for such an expensive machine. Just get the Sony PlayStation 5 Vertical Stand Disc and Digital Edition.
In my experience, you're mostly paying for the logo with Sony. Over the years I've used several and the OIVO PS5 Vertical Stand with Zinc Alloy Screw is way more budget friendly while staying rock solid. If that cat is a real menace tho, just grab the HIDEit Mounts PS5 Wall Mount. It gets the console off the narrow shelf entirely and is basically impossible to knock over.
Regarding what #1 said about "Unfortunately, I've had issues with generic stands before...." - it's usually because people buy the snap-on plastic ones without a proper metal screw mount. I've been looking into the specs and honestly, the stability depends on the base radius and the friction coefficient of the padding. I'm very satisfied with the NexiGo PS5 Vertical Stand with Integrated Cooling Vents. It works well for narrow shelves because the weight distribution is centered and the footprint is optimized for the Pro dimensions.
