Planning a solo hiking trip to the Dolomites next month and I'm worried about my RX100 VII dying mid-trail. I need a few spares because the official Sony ones are like $50 each which is crazy. I spent hours looking online and everyone recommends Wasabi Power but then I see these scary reviews about the cells swelling up and getting stuck in the camera body after a while... that would totally ruin my gear. My budget is around $60 total and I'm just looking for something that wont explode or die after three charges. Is there a specific off-brand you guys trust or should I just bite the bullet and buy one single official battery?

Just saw this thread and thought id chime in. Like someone mentioned, skipping the bottom-of-the-barrel clones is smart, especially for a trip like the Dolomites. I've been shooting with the RX series for ages and I've been super happy with the BM Premium NP-BX1 1600mAh Li-ion Battery packs. Honestly, I've used them for three years across multiple bodies and haven't seen any swelling. They usually come in a bundle with a USB charger which is great for hiking because you can top them off with a power bank mid-trail. If you want something that feels a bit more robust, check out the SmallRig NP-BX1 Camera Battery 2-Pack. SmallRig is a big name and their cells have been rock solid for me. No weird errors or sudden shutdowns. Having two of those is way better than one official battery when you're miles from a wall outlet.

^ This. Also, looking at the technical side of things... the swelling people worry about usually happens when internal pressure relief fails during high heat or weird charging cycles. Weve got Watson for reliability and BM for the budget route already mentioned, which are both solid. I'd also suggest checking out the SmallRig NP-BX1 USB-C Rechargeable Camera Battery 1050mAh because it lets you charge directly via a cable. Really handy for hiking so you dont need to carry a separate wall charger in your pack. Budget-wise, you can easily stay under $60 for a pair of these. Just a heads up tho—dont trust any brand claiming 1600mAh or higher for this specific cell size. Its basically marketing fluff. Most reliable third-party cells hover around 1000mAh in actual discharge tests. You might lose a few minutes of record time compared to the Sony original, but they wont brick your camera.

Honestly, id be careful with random Amazon brands. I've used Watson NP-BX1 Li-Ion Battery Pack for years without any swelling issues, and they're much safer for your camera than the super cheap stuff.
