I finally bit the bullet and picked up a used RX100 VII for my trip to Japan next month. Super excited to use it in Tokyo but man this thing is tiny and feels like a wet bar of soap lol. I'm trying to figure out what I actually need to buy before I leave because my budget is pretty tight after spending so much on the camera itself. I've got maybe $150 or $200 left for extras.
I spent all night looking at reviews and everyone keeps mentioning the SmallRig cage or that official Sony stick-on grip. The cage looks cool for protection but doesn't it kind of ruin the whole pocketable vibe of the RX series? I'm torn because I'm clumsy as hell but I want to keep it small. Also seen a lot of debate about the batteries. Some people say buy 4 extras but others say just carry a power bank and charge via USB while walking around. Does the VII actually charge fast enough for that to work or will I just be stuck with a dead brick halfway through the day?
Here is what I'm looking at so far:
What am I missing? Is there anything that's a total waste of money that I should avoid? I'm mainly doing street shots and some family video stuff so I dont need a full pro rig or anything...
Late to the party but you NEED that grip! @Reply #1 - good point! on the battery. Honestly tho skip the cage and just get the stick-on grip. It makes the camera feel amazing without ruining the size!
> Does the VII actually charge fast enough for that to work? Unfortunately, the internal charging is painfully slow and super disappointing since it still uses micro-USB instead of USB-C. It wont charge fast enough to save you if youre shooting 4K video. Get a Sony PCK-LG1 Screen Protector Glass asap because the screen coating is way too fragile. Also, the Peak Design Cuff Camera Wrist Strap Black is worth every penny for the security.
You gotta be careful with the battery drain on that thing before buying extras.
