What is a good pocket-sized tripod for a small Sony camera that wont break the bank? Sorry if this is a super basic question but I literally just got my first real camera (the ZV-1 II) and I have no idea what I am doing lol. I am going on a solo trip to Tokyo in three weeks and I really want to be able to take photos of myself in front of stuff without having to ask strangers every five minutes.

I need something really small because I am only traveling with a backpack so it has to basically fit in my jacket pocket or a side pouch. I saw some things online that look like little flexible legs but then there are ones that look like a handle? I dont know if those are different things or if they all do the same thing. My budget is probably like 40 or 50 bucks max because I already spent way too much on the camera itself.

  • has to be light
  • easy to carry
  • wont fall over if its a bit windy

Is there a specific brand that everyone uses or are the cheap ones on amazon okay for a beginner? I dont want my camera to fall and break on the first day...

Re: "Tokyo is going to be amazing! You definitely..." - spot on advice from the earlier posts! Tokyo is literally a playground for photographers. Since the others already mentioned the Manfrotto PIXI Mini Tripod Black and that Ulanzi stick, you have the stability and height options covered, but let me throw a curveball. If you want something that can actually wrap around a fence or a railing in Shibuya, you gotta look at the Joby GorillaPod 1K Kit with Ballhead. Its the king of those flexible leg things you saw! The 1K version is perfect for your ZV-1 II and way more versatile than a fixed stand when you are on uneven ground. Honestly tho, if you want something super sleek that fits in a jacket pocket without any bulk, the SmallRig Tabletop Mini Tripod with Ball Head BUT2429 is a total beast. Its all aluminum and feels way more premium than the price tag. It wont blow over easily because it sits low and wide. Between the Manfrotto stability and the Ulanzi height, you have some solid choices now. Just dont buy those unbranded $10 ones from a random bin... they are absolute junk and your new camera will end up on the pavement. Stick with SmallRig or Joby and you are golden! Have the best time in Japan, I am so jealous of all the ramen you are gonna eat!

^ This. Also, look into the Ulanzi MT-08 Extendable Mini Tripod if you want extra height. In my experience, those handle-style tripods are way better for framing because they extend like a selfie stick. Ive used tons of these and the MT-08 has a solid metal ball head so it wont sag under your ZV-1 II. Super light, fits in a pocket, and handles wind better than those flimsy flexible legs everyone buys at first.

Tokyo is going to be amazing! You definitely need the Manfrotto PIXI Mini Tripod Black for your trip! It is way more stable than those cheap flexible legs you see online and fits in a jacket pocket easily. It handles the ZV-1 II perfectly and wont buckle if there is a breeze. Its basically a tiny tank for solo shots!
