Sony a6700 was released in 2023, the successor is expected in 2025 to 2026.

I don't think so, the a6600 was released in 2019, a6700 in 2023, so about 4 year circle, a6800 could be in 2027.

@d_0001 Too early for a6800 or a6900, just get a6700 now.

^ This. Also, looking at the consensus here, we are definitely not seeing an a6800 for a long time. Tbh I am totally satisfied with the current gear. If you are on a budget, it makes way more sense to just grab a Sony Alpha a6700 Mirrorless Camera now or even a used Sony Alpha a6600 if you want to save even more. The rumors about 40MP sensors like in the Fujifilm X-T5 are cool, but for most hobbyist stuff, the current 26MP works well enough for me. No complaints about the speed or quality. Canon has the Canon EOS R7 if you really need high res now, but honestly, Sonys glass selection is just better for the money. Just pick up whats available and go shoot, dont wait three years for a spec bump that might not even happen...

Sony's a6xxx series could benefit from a philosophical shift and technological upgrades. Implementing the 40MP sensor they produce for Fujifilm would be a significant improvement. Enhanced handling, an upgraded EVF, and dual card slots could elevate the series to compete with models like the XT-5, while retaining Sony's superior autofocus. These changes would position the a6xxx line in the prosumer APS-C market. However, Sony's apparent lack of interest in this segment makes such upgrades unlikely. Nevertheless, with current technology, Sony has the capability to substantially enhance the a6700 and its successors, should they choose to do so. The potential for improvement exists; it's a matter of Sony's willingness to pursue it.

Sony could never announce the a6800, because more and more people are shooting videos instead of photo.

@upd_upd I agree with you, we may see more and more ZV series mirrorless cameras.

Sony a6800 could greatly improve with a 40MP sensor, better handling, upgraded EVF, and dual card slots. These enhancements would make it competitive with high-end APS-C cameras, leveraging Sony's autofocus advantage.

During Black Friday 2024, there is no rebate on Sony a6700. So a6800 is still far away, maybe in 2026.
