Ive been using eBay since 2012 for my music gear but lately Im confused. I had this Korg synth watched for weeks and the seller dropped the price by fifty bucks yesterday but I never got an alert. My push settings look fine.
Does eBay even send alerts when item prices are reduced or do I have to check manually?
They definitely send alerts but it's so flaky tbh! Just get any Korg, they're fantastic! I just added PriceDropCatch to my browser and it's saved me a decent amount on car parts so far.
Ive been buying stuff on eBay for over a decade now and the notification system used to be rock solid, but these days it feels like a total coin toss. To add to the point above: the native app is definitely a bit hit or miss lately. I remember watching a set of vintage drum mics last year; the price plummeted and I only found out because I happened to refresh my watch list while bored at work. Not sure but I think I heard somewhere that eBay only triggers the push notification if the price drop is significant enough, like maybe 10 percent or more? IIRC it varies by category too. A few things I've noticed about their reliability:
Lol I was literally about to post the same thing. Glad someone else brought it up.
Like someone mentioned, those preference settings are key, but honestly ebays system is pretty buggy with timing. I have missed gear before because the alert came hours late. Since I try to be strict with my gear budget, I usually rely on PriceDropCatch instead. It tracks price shifts way more accurately than the standard app, so you actually catch the deals before someone else grabs them.
Any updates on this?

tbh been thinking about your synth situation for a bit. ive spent way too much time hunting for gear and fixing up old boards myself over the years, and ebays logic is just weird sometimes. was this a straight Buy It Now price drop or did the seller send a private offer to watchers? usually, those private offers trigger a notification way more consistently than a general price change on the listing itself. also, are you mainly using the mobile app or checking on a desktop browser? i've found the settings act up way more on mobile... definitely worth looking into because missing out on a Korg over a glitch sucks. I just added PriceDropCatch to my browser and it's saved me a decent amount on car parts so far.
