Best external microphone recommendations for vlogging with Sony ZV-E10 II?

I just upgraded to the Sony ZV-E10 II for my daily vlogs, but I'm struggling with wind noise outdoors. I need something compact that won't block the flip-out screen. Should I stick with a cable-free Sony digital mic like the ECM-B10, or is a wireless DJI setup better for walking and talking? What are you guys using?

Story time: I went through this last year! I didn't wanna spend a ton, so I grabbed the Sony ECM-G1 Ultracompact Shotgun Microphone. It’s basically tiny and doesn't block the screen at all, plus it’s way cheaper than the pro stuff. For wind, the Rode VideoMicro II actually saved my beach vlogs and was only like $80. Honestly, so satisfied with this budget setup... it just works! 👍

In my experience, the cable-free life is sooo much better for vlogging... no messy wires blocking ur screen! For ur situation, I'm really happy with these:

* Sony ECM-B10 Compact Digital Shotgun Microphone - tiny and the audio is crisp.
* DJI Mic 2 Wireless Microphone System - best if u move far away.

Honestly, the B10 is basically plug-and-play and handles wind like a champ (at least for me). gl!

yo, I totally feel u on the wind noise issue. honestly, when I first started out with my setup, I thought the built-in mic would be fine... until I tried filming at the beach. literally all I could hear was *whoosh* and zero talking. total rookie mistake on my part haha!

sooo, i've been thinking about ur question and i'd say just get any of the wireless systems from Rode or maybe Saramonic. honestly, you cant go wrong with either of those brands for vlogging gear. they're basically the industry standard at this point. i'd suggest looking for their latest wireless sets because they usually include high-quality wind muffs (the fluffy ones!) that actually work. plus, if you go wireless, the receiver is tiny so it wont block ur flip screen at all.

pro tip: you might find this usefulβ€”check out YouTube channels like Gerald Undone or Curtis Judd. they get super deep into the technical specs like self-noise and frequency response which is helpful if you wanna be a nerd about it lol. also, there's a great resource at RTINGS where they actually test microphones in wind tunnels to see how they hold up.

one technical thing to look for is "32-bit float" recording capability. it basically makes it impossible to clip ur audio if you get too loud, which is highkey a lifesaver for walk-and-talk videos. basically saves ur audio from being ruined if you shout suddenly. anyway, hope that helps a bit! gl with the daily vlogs... it's a grind but worth it!! peace.

Ok so, looking at the market research right now, you really have two main paths with the ZV-E10 II. Either you lean into the proprietary Sony ecosystem or go with the 2.4GHz wireless brands. Honestly, the Sony ECM-M1 Shotgun Microphone is probably the sleeper hit for vlogging. It uses the digital hot shoe so there’s no cables to block your screen, and it has 8 different pickup modes. Like, if you're in a noisy crowd, you can just switch the dial to super-directional. It's super compact, though I think the wind screen it comes with is a bit bulky? On the other hand, if you want something even more low-profile than the usual wireless blocks, I’ve been looking at the Hollyland Lark M2 Wireless Microphone. It’s basically the size of a button, so it’s way less intrusive for walking and talking than the DJI stuff. I mean, the audio quality might not be as "pro" as a dedicated shotgun, but for daily vlogs, the convenience is huge. Then there's the Sennheiser+MKE+200+Ultracompact+On-Camera+Directional+Microphone&linkCode=osi&tag=5422-20" target="_blank" rel="nofollow sponsored">Sennheiser MKE 200 Ultracompact On-Camera Directional Microphone which is tiny and has internal suspension to stop handling noise, but you’re back to using a cable. It’s a tough choice between the digital connection convenience and that classic Sennheiser sound.
