What budget mic actually sounds clean on the ZV-E10 II without tons of hiss? I've been using Sony cameras for years but this specific pre-amp setup is driving me nuts compared to my old gear. I'm totally broke after buying the body so I've only got about 60 bucks. Need it for travel vlogging this weekend...

Just saw this thread and tbh i kinda disagree about analog being the main enemy here. You can definitely get clean sound on a budget if you grab a mic that has a built-in gain boost. That way you can bypass those hiss-prone Sony preamps by turning the camera levels way down. Since youre stuck at sixty bucks, i would suggest looking at these:

  • Takstar SGC-598 Shotgun Microphone - it has a +10dB switch that works wonders for keeping the noise floor low.
  • Movo VXR10-PRO Compact Shotgun Mic - it actually has a much better signal-to-noise ratio than the standard non-pro version. Basically, you want to set your ZV-E10 II internal recording level to like 3 or 4 and let the mic handle the amplification. Just be careful with the cable routing tho... sometimes those cheap thin wires pick up a ton of electronic interference from the flip-out screen. Hope you find something before the weekend!

Honestly, I've been really satisfied with using a powered lavalier for the ZV-E10 II when I'm tight on cash. The key is finding one with its own battery so it provides a hotter signal than a passive mic. I use the <a href=" https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/search?Ntt= Audio-Technica+ATR3350xiS+Omnidirectional+Condenser+Lavalier+Microphone&BI=8941&KBID=10361&SID=12345&DFF=d50" target="_blank" rel="nofollow sponsored">Audio-Technica ATR3350xiS Omnidirectional Condenser Lavalier Microphone and it works well for travel vlogging because it's basically weightless. You just have to remember to turn the camera internal recording level down to 1 or 2. This keeps the noise floor extremely low and kills the hiss. If you prefer wireless, the Comica Vimo C1 Wireless Lavalier Microphone System is usually right around sixty bucks and the digital transmission bypasses most preamp issues. I've had no complaints with it for quick travel clips. Just make sure you monitor your levels because those Sony preamps are definitely sensitive... it's a bit of a learning curve compared to the older bodies.

I would suggest being very careful with cheap analog connections. Are you filming primarily in windy outdoor locations or quiet indoor spaces for these vlogs?
