I just got the ZV-E10 II and honestly I am so stoked about the video quality like the 4k60 is gorgeous but the audio is actually making me want to scream. I tried using the built-in three-capsule mic because Sony hyped it up so much but it picks up literally every single click of my fingers on the body and the wind noise even with that stupid little deadcat is just unbearable. I am literally so fed up with my footage sounding like it was recorded inside a tin can it is honestly ruining the whole experience for me.

I have this huge trip to Tokyo coming up in exactly twelve days and I cannot have my travel vlogs sounding this amateurish. I am looking for something that just works without me having to fiddle with settings for an hour because I am gonna be doing a lot of fast-paced street food reviews and walking through crowded areas. My budget is probably sticking around $150 to $200 tops since I just dropped a ton on the camera body and a new wide-angle lens. Should I go for a small shotgun mic like the Sony ECM-G1 to keep it compact or is it worth it to jump to something like a Rode VideoMic? I really need something that handles background noise better than this internal mess. What are you guys actually using on this specific body that doesnt block the flip out screen?

I had the exact same issue when I was filming at a night market last year! Shotguns are okay, but for street food, you really want a wireless setup. I switched to the Rode Wireless ME Compact Wireless Microphone System and it is amazing. It fits your budget perfectly and the GainAssist tech means zero fiddling with levels while eating. Total game changer for crowded spots and way cheaper than the Pro versions!

I went through the same thing and honestly, the Sony ECM-G1 Shotgun Microphone is such a lifesaver for travel. Im really happy with how it stays out of the way of the flip screen since there are no wires. It picks up my voice clearly even in busy places. Plus, its tiny so you wont feel awkward filming in public. It just works without any settings drama.
