What's the best all-around lens for a beginner vlogger using the Sony ZV-E10 II? Considering its lack of in-body image stabilization (IBIS), are there lenses that compensate? Given the price difference with the a6700, should lens choices factor in a potential upgrade path? For everyday vlogs and travel videos, what affordable lenses offer a good balance of image quality, ease of use, and versatility for a beginner, and what focal lengths/apertures are recommended? Is the kit 16-50mm lens a suitable starting point?

Sigma 18-50 f2.8 is the best.

Tamron 17-70mm is another great choice.

Honestly, if youre just starting out with the ZV-E10 II, I think you really have to look at the native Sony glass first for the safest compatibility. Since this body doesnt have IBIS, you have to be pretty careful about how the lens interacts with Sony's Active SteadyShot or the Catalyst Browse software later on.

  • Sony E 10-20mm f/4 PZ G: This is basically the gold standard for vlogging right now. Its super wide, which is important because when you turn on the electronic stabilization, the camera crops the image in quite a bit. If you use a 16-50mm, it might feel way too zoomed in on your face. The power zoom is also really smooth for video.
  • Sony E 15mm f/1.4 G: This is a great alternative if you want that blurry background (bokeh) look, but being a prime lens, youre stuck at one focal length. It is a bit more expensive though. I usually prefer sticking to Sony brand lenses for video work because the autofocus just feels more reliable and consistent (at least thats what worked for me). Third-party lenses like Sigma are great for photography, but sometimes the communication between the lens and the body for video stabilization can be a bit tricky. Just something to keep in mind if youre worried about shaky footage!!!

For the ZV-E10 II, the kit 16-50mm is a decent starting point, offering versatility for everyday vlogs and travel. Consider lenses with Optical SteadyShot (OSS) to compensate for the lack of IBIS. If upgrading to an a6700 is a possibility, E-mount lenses offer compatibility across Sony's APS-C lineup. For budget-conscious beginners, prioritize affordable lenses with OSS while exploring various focal lengths and apertures as your skills develop.
