Does anyone have recommendations for a budget-friendly wide-angle lens for the new ZV-E10 II that wont break the bank?

Ive been shooting on the original ZV-E10 for about two years now and finally pulled the trigger on the Mark II last week for the better autofocus and 10-bit color. Honestly the sensor is great but I totally blanked on how much the kit lens struggles when Im trying to do walk-and-talk vlogs. The 16-50mm is okay I guess but once active stabilization kicks in it feels way too tight on my face and I just look like a giant thumb on screen lol.

I mostly do travel content around the PNW so I need something that can handle a bit of drizzle and isnt a total brick to carry around in a backpack. I was looking at the Sony 11mm f1.8 but its a bit pricey for my current budget since I just dropped most of my gear fund on the body itself. Looking to stay under $350 or maybe $400 if it's really worth it. I heard some okay things about the TTArtisan or Viltrox glass but Im worried about losing that snappy AF speed that this new body is actually known for.

Are there any third party options that actually keep up with the new phase detect system or should I just suck it up and save for native glass? Ive got a trip to Olympic National Park in three weeks and really want to get some nice wide forest shots without having to stand a mile away from my tripod...

Check out the Samyang AF 12mm f2.0 Sony E. It features weather sealing for PNW rain and reliable autofocus for the Mark II. TL;DR: Best budget lens to counter that active stabilization crop.

^ This. Also, consider the TTArtisan AF 10mm f2.0 Sony E.

  • Cheaper than most
  • Extra wide for crop AF speed is decent for vlogging if youre really pinching pennies.

Building on the earlier suggestion, finding something wide enough for that active steadyshot crop under 400 bucks is honestly a pain. I have tried a few things and was kinda disappointed with how they handled the PNW weather. Like, the Viltrox AF 13mm f1.4 STM Sony E is amazing for the price and the autofocus is actually pretty quick for a third-party lens, but the lack of proper weather sealing really scares me when the mist starts hitting in places like Olympic. Before you pull the trigger, are you mostly vlogging handheld or do you plan on using a small tripod or grip for those forest shots? If you are handheld, even the Sigma 16mm f1.4 DC DN Contemporary which is a beast for image quality felt way too tight for me once you turn on that active stabilization. It basically turns into a portrait lens and you are back to being a giant thumb on screen lol. I really wanted to love the cheaper options, but unfortunately, they just do not have that set it and forget it AF reliability that the Mark II is meant for. Its super frustrating that the native glass is so expensive, but honestly, maybe keep an eye out for a used Sony E 11mm f1.8. I have seen them pop up for around 420 sometimes if you are lucky. It is really the only one that stays wide enough after the crop without being a total headache to use in the woods. Definitely keep an eye on those second-hand sites!
