Is the Sony 18-105mm f/4 G OSS Power Zoom lens worth the investment for the ZV-E10 II for cinematic vlogging?

Given the Sony ZV-E10 II is an APS-C camera, does the 18-105mm f/4 G OSS lens's power zoom justify its price for smoother, more "professional" vlogs compared to more budget-friendly options like the Sigma 18-50mm f/2.8 or Sony 10-18mm f/4 OSS wide-angle? Does its versatility outweigh the cost for vloggers prioritizing cinematic quality?

Honestly, I was pretty let down by that lens after all the hype it gets. I bought the Sony E PZ 18-105mm f/4 G OSS thinking it would be my one-and-done for video, but the size alone makes it a nightmare for handheld vlogging on a body as small as the ZV-E10 II. Its just too front-heavy and honestly feels unbalanced.

  • Sony E PZ 18-105mm f/4 G OSS: The internal zoom is nice for smooth b-roll, but it is not very sharp compared to newer glass. The f/4 aperture really struggled in my experience whenever I moved from outdoors to indoors.
  • Sigma 18-50mm f/2.8 DC DN Contemporary: This is what I swapped to. Its way sharper and that extra stop of light at f/2.8 actually gives you the depth of field you need for a cinematic look without the bulk.
  • Sony E 10-18mm f/4 OSS: If you want that wide vlogging look, this is better, but 18mm on the zoom lens is way too tight for self-filming unless you use a long selfie stick. I really wanted to love the power zoom, but it felt laggy and the image quality was kind of mushy. Ended up selling mine after a month because it just wasnt as good as I expected for the price tag. Its an old design and it shows...

For vlogging, the 18-105mm's power zoom offers smooth, controlled zooming, valuable for cinematic shots. While pricier than the Sigma 18-50mm f/2.8 (better low light) or Sony 10-18mm f/4 OSS, its versatility might justify the cost if budget allows. Consider your shooting style and prioritize accordingly.
