I recently picked up the Sony a6700 and I’m blown away by the autofocus, but now I want a prime lens that can really maximize that 26MP sensor for street photography. I’m looking for something with incredible edge-to-edge sharpness and a fast aperture for low-light evenings. I’ve been debating between the Sigma 23mm f/1.4 for that extra light or the Sony 24mm f/2.8 G because it’s so compact and stealthy. Since I walk for hours, size matters, but I don't want to sacrifice image quality. For those of you shooting street on the a6700, which prime lens do you find provides the crispest details and best overall performance?
I'd actually suggest a different approach - I've tried many expensive lenses over the years, but i think the Viltrox AF 23mm f/1.4 E is a way better value for the a6700. It's much cheaper than the Sigma but reallyyy sharp at f/1.4 for those night walks. Honestly, the lesson I learned is u dont need to overpay to get pro results on a budget. gl! 👍
Sooo, for your situation, I would suggest being a bit cautious about the trade-offs here. Honestly, that 26MP sensor on the a6700 is great, but it can be kinda unforgiving with noise if youre shooting at f/2.8 once the sun goes down. Here's how I see it: 1. Sigma 23mm f/1.4 DC DN Contemporary: This is basically the sharpness king for Sony APS-C right now. If you want those crisp details and creamy bokeh, this is it. But be careful cuz it lacks official weather sealing, which is a bit risky if you're walking for hours and it starts drizzling.
2. Sony FE 24mm f/2.8 G: It's incredibly light and stealthy, but lowkey, you might struggle with the f/2.8 aperture in low-light evenings. Personally, I think the Sigma wins on IQ, but if you want something smaller with better build, maybe check out the Sony E 15mm f/1.4 G? It's insanely sharp, though maybe too wide for some? Tbh, id go Sigma for the light. gl!
In my experience, you should definitely grab the Sigma 23mm f/1.4 DC DN Contemporary for ur a6700. I've used it for night street walks and its highkey sharper than the G lens. * Incredible f/1.4 low-light performance
* Way crisper edge-to-edge details The Sony FE 24mm f/2.8 G is stealthy, but the Sigma's extra light is basically essential for evenings. gl!
Can vouch for this
No way, I literally just dealt with this yesterday. Small world.
